    I7 q740 never goes above 1.73GHz

    Any ideas?

    That is what its set at when you buy it. you need to overclock it :D

    Im sorry, i stand corrected. BUT it has 4 physical cores and your OS reads 8 cores because of the hyperthreading.

    Hyper-threading is an Intel-proprietary technology used to improve parallelization of computations (doing multiple tasks at once) performed on PC microprocessors.
