I7 q740 never goes above 1.73GHz
Any ideas?

That is what its set at when you buy it. you need to overclock it

It scales without reporting in some tests.. weird. But it does work.. That link is proves it. Give u a desktop widget that shows it. -

You sure about it being a 6 core? I thought the q indicated quad?

Im sorry, i stand corrected. BUT it has 4 physical cores and your OS reads 8 cores because of the hyperthreading.
