Neither of my 2 WD devices or 1 seagate device work properly with the usb 3.0 plugs. Sometimes it is not detected other times I get an error saying that the device will perform faster if connected to a usb 3.0 port (and yes, i am connecting it to a usb 3.0 port).
Where can i find drivers for usb 3.0 controller? The one on support.dell.com is 3 years old!

Try installing the latest firmware on those devices.

I'd assume you mean from dell? If you not adi_aw please try going to intel and use their update utility.

For Windows 7 you should be able to use the usb 3.0 drivers on the Intel site.

The R3 had SATA 3.0 problems and they removed it from the specs and downgraded it via the bios. This may be another result of that BIOS. Both systems use the (6 off) 6gbs channels that the chipset provides.

If this is correct, and the spurious nature is the same that was happening with SATA 3 drives, the unlocked bios with sata fix is what you need to find ;).

    Good luck

I'm not sure he is talking about sata just the default Usb 3.0 ports that I don't think were ever disabled.

They share the 6 x 6gb channels the chipset provides. SS next to a USB port and it is 6gbs (USB 3.0). Four fast usb, two sata 3, all six channels used ;). Maybe they are just a flakey as the SATA3 ports when using an external drive?

I know what your inferring but to do that all 6gbs channels would have to be turned off and I don't think that was the case. The chipset supports 6 lanes of the next generation speed but I don't think disabling lanes has to do with the other. My the theory is if they did work and arnt now it is a driver / board issue. But disagreement is what gets us to an answer :D. As always good knowledge mickey.

Thanks man, Yeah a different bios is a shot in the dark but without knowing what dell did to drop sata3 to sata2 we will never know. I'm guessing they did not drop all the channels and now the OP is suffering trying to use one with a HDD in a USB3 port with no fix available, only finding a drive that works well?

If it simply worked fine for ages then an update or reinstall killed it a driver/firmware is perfectly reasonable/probable ;)

Sorry for delayed response. This problem persists irrespective of whether it is a WD or Seagate or Transcend device. Yes, the firmware of all these devices is up to date.
Where can i get the latest drivers for usb 3.0?

Btw, this is my temporary id. My actual id here is Chaos_92 but i have forgotten the password.. I tried contacting admin but to no avail. What should i do?
