I have a M17R3 with the 2820 and the 6970. I have a usb 3.0 HDD but when I plug the cable into the USB 3.0 on the Laptop, if I move the laptop or just move the cable a smig it disconnects. This happens on both the 3.0 USB slots on the Laptop. This does not happen on the 2.0 slots. It seems that the 3.0 slots on the laptop are a little to big. Does anyone else have this problem on their R3? Or is this just a flaw in the R3?

I think its your hardware. I have identical specs, minus the HDD's and i have never experienced this problem.

    Call dell.

Actually, just tried this again, there some very minor movement but nothing that will make it disconnect, the USB 2.0 is the same.

Funny you mention this. I was watching movies at work last night on my external hard drive and this happened to me twice in about 3 minutes from slightly angling my laptop over so others could watch. I thought the same thing, seems a little loose.

i do not have this issue at all on my r3.....i use the 3.0 ports for charging my phone (so that it isnt on my mouse side) and an external HD. i even put them both on my keyboard and move around my house sometimes, never a disconnect. you may want to contact support.

Based on my experience I have this happening at times due to the wear and tear in the male pin ( am I correct). I am referring to the part you insert inside the usb slot of your notebook. This has happened in 2.0s as well of different notebooks. If its one I can understand. When its happening on both, i suspect the culprit to be that pin, not the notebook.

It sometimes happens to new devices also. I had a broadband stick that would disconnect at the slightest movement. After I changed the stick, there were no more problems. Also there can be breaks within cables near the connectors. However, avoid wiggling the usb connector when pulling out and putting in. Push it straight in or pull it straight out....No kamasutra techniques please.

Well it is both the USB3.0 it is a brand new computer only 3 months old and the same HDD I use on the 3.0 and disconnects at the slights movement works just fine on the 2.0 side. I can feel it as well when I plug in on the 3.0 side it is easy and loose on the 2.o side it is tight and firm. so I feel it is on the computer side not the cable side. I have also tried several usbs on the 3.0 side and they are all loose.
