Currently on the left side of my M17x - I have 2 broken USB ports - both plastic seperators have fallen out. I have tried to get this covered under warranty - I have been told that the motherboard is only covered for first 6 months ( USB ports are part of M/B left side) and the warranty is useless by Sebastian Kopplin - Alienware Escalation Specialist.

    1. Is this true - why pay for a 3 year warranty if M/B is only covered for 6 months!

    2. As Motherboard is the one of the most expensive things to replace - is there any other way to warranty it?

    3. What recourse is possible against DELL to stop this and make sure that a warranty actually does cover their products.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Gaz.

Continue calling back, if you get an answer that doesn't suit you ask to speak to a supervisor. Do you know if you have complete care? Continue to escalate the issue with dell until you get it replaced. Be polite, but be firm in your request.

    Wolviet7,

I'd recommend sending a PM to 'erawneila' (aka. Brian) here on the forums.

Brian is the Alienware quality control representative. If you're hitting a dead end I'm sure he can direct you to folks who can help.

If your system is new, the entire unit is covered for your warranty term (except battery - only 1 yr).

Mine broke, and it was covered by my extended warranty. Had a R1, and they gave me a R2.
