I just got my M17x yesterday and tried doing a wubi install of Ubuntu 11.04 with no luck. When i tried booting to it, the screen constantly flashed a spectrum of colors. Tried booting into safe video mode, and just got a white screen when doing that.

I should probably mention I went with kubuntu, while i normally go with the Gnome desktop and have not given that a try yet. Just wondering if anyone else has 11.04 working and if so, are you using Gnome or KDE or...?

Well I'm glad to hear it's not only me. I'll have to do some more research tomorrow if I have time. I'm in the process of getting things packed to move this weekend so I'm fairly busy.

Ubuntu 11.04 is bad...i tried it on several laptops including a Thinkpad T500 and it just doesn't start...just go with 10.04 LTS.

I think you're right sfara, I've been reading about a lot of other people having the same issue and also going back to 10.04. I noticed everyone that had this issue had done a clean install and not an upgrade. I'm curious if upgrading will yield the same results? I might have to give that a shot.

    Agreed with sfara.......

11.04 has all sorts of issues if you are even able to get a working install.
Things like...... HORRIBLE battery life, spotty (at best) working graphics (ie... will work on one boot, but not the next etc..)

After a couple of installs on different laptops... I decided to stay away for now.
