MickyD1234 spot on, I thought I had set it to pure UEFI and I hadn't.

All working now 120hz & 980m shininess, lovely

Using 353.06 driver seems ok, will test later once the kids are in dreamland. Fingers crossed thanks for everyone's help along the way

glad you got it sorted. maybe try the 353.38 hotfix drivers or even 350.12 drivers as the drivers between will cause TDRs in chrome. i am using thre 353.38 hotfix drivers and i haven't seen any TDRs with chrome.

Great to hear. I'd advise getting a bunch of baseline data like FPS and temps before making any changes. Heaven 4 is good IMO since your not wasting time testing your CPU like other benchmarks do.

for me if you can get heaven to just loop for 3 hours it's stable :p

you should be able to attach the 60hz panel and flash the 980M's vBIOS then reattach the 120Hz panel.

EDIT: BTW, 8 beeps is an LCD error, 6 is a GPU error, 4 is RAM error.

Nope, 120Hz 'nvflashing' works just fine UEFI NVFLASH_WIN_5.218_x64 (password premamod.com)
Disable defender or any other anti-virus.

Device manager -> display adapters -> disable.
    cmd (Admin)
    Backup first.
    Code:
    nvflash.exe -b backup.rom

    Flash
    Code:
    nvflash.exe -6 vbiosname.rom

    "Flash Successful"
Device manager, enable 980m -> Reboot

ah fair enough cos even if you disable the GPU it'll default to the MS display driver.

@j95 Does this mean that I can buy a gtx980m and flash a mod vbios although I have 120hz 3D screen in my Aw17R1? Plug and play?
Will my oc [email protected] or all hardware throttle with gtx980m overclocked? I use 330w psu. Are all problems with installing and use of gtx980m now solved for the Aw17R1 with 120hz 3D screen? No throttling even if you overclock hefty on cpu and gpu?

@Papusan , Yes the Prema modded Nvflash UEFI version works fine for all SLI and 120Hz machines w.o any hassle ( before this NVFlash for SLI - needed to put 1 card and SG mode then flash, 120Hz AW17 impossible to flash)
Plus the 330W Adapter should be fine for the single GPU + MX CPU (All OC'd ) too iirc.

And no throttling??? Thank you bro. My i7-4930mx and gtx980m maximum overclocked had been great . Maybe I had got an ok 3Dmark11 and Fire Strike score :D? There are not many laptops with socket hardware that I like (most are Bga trash), so this is a good news.

Running on the Prema bios now, the flashing was a dream. Really simple, took all of 3 mins from start to finish. That how flashing should be

Might need to try another driver 353.06 is ok, but I think there is better out there... I have attached a picture, this is after about 2hrs going, not to bad at all, no OC applied... [IMG] [IMG]

    Thanks

I can tell you typed it on a phone LOL damn autocorrect!

Also, wouldn't go with AB cos you can't jack up the voltage when you overclock. try the 350.12 or 353.38 drivers.

Is there a separate INI file to load for the 353.38 drivers or have they already been modded

    Thanks

yes, there is an INF file (not INI) over at the tech inferno forums. download the drivers and the modded INFs and you're good to go.
