    I have M17x R3 1600x900p 6990m 2720qm

I want to upgrade the 1600x900p to 1080p, as I am fed up with "blacks" being greys and especially these barely visible lines running down the screen (from average viewing distance and angle), obviously the pixels are of poor quality/have spaces in between them.

I hear that the 1080p version is better, much better.

I have heard that if you buy a screen from dell they will come and fit it?
    1. Did I hear this wrong?
    2. What kinda of price would I be talking about?
    3. Where and how do I order this?

Ps, I like in the UK, England.

Many thanks for helping an Alienware freshman.

Call Dell and see what they can do.

If they dont want to do it you can buy the screen from Dell/ebay.

    Hi, thanks for the advice.

Anyone else had any experience with upgrading their screen?
If so, tell me all. :)

I have the 1600 X 900 screen...and I'm not having any issues at all. I really can't tell the difference between 900p and 1080p visuals.

Maybe you got a bad screen?

Yeah I may have, as my brother has 17inch XPS and it's as clear, if not better than my 22inch 1080p ASUS monitor.

It's nothing MAJOR just looks a bit... off, compared to what it should be like... enough "off" to make me want to consider spending more on upgrading.

When I have blasted this flu i'll give dell a call and see what they suggest.

I called Alienware....they said $964 bucks for the upgrade with taxes and shipping.... not worth it.

Just buy a separate larger screen if you want the upgrade. You lose mobility but it's gonna be cheaper than spending 900+ dollars for someone to install one on your laptop

I can see you not having the issues, maybe the OP did get a bad screen. However, I dont see how people say they cant see the difference between 1600X900 and 1920X1080??? It is blatantly obvious!! However, maybe, with the increased fps you get at the lower res one could argue that the difference isnt significant enough to be worth it. But I dont see how you cant see a visual difference!!

There is a night and day difference between the 1080p screen and 900p one. The viewing angles for one are so much better, as is the color, clarity, and blacks. Dell upgraded mine for 160 bucks, and it was completely worth it. They sent a tech out to me and he replaced my screen for me.

I loved the laptop when I first got it but I was disappointed in the screen quality and I know exactly what you mean by the lines running down the screen.

So for me, the Upgrade was worth every penny, but also it was only 160 bucks and not 900. But I don't know about the UK, I don't know if they offer in home tech service or not there or what the price may be compared to the U.S. All I can really tell you that the 1080p screen is of much much higher quality and if you choose to do so you will not be disappointed.

Yeah the lines running down the screen is a pain... It annoys the hell outta me, so does the crappy viewing angle and the greys LOL.

I could live with the greys but the lines, gah... it's so savage when you are playing a game and something bright appears, like an explosion, you can see the lines/pixels clearly it looks disgusting.

Ill get off my lazy bum and call dell tomorrow probably, I think there is tech support to home, as my friend had an alienware and had tech support come to his house apparently.

Gah I suck on the phone.... I just can't understand them. Now they think I want a repair not upgrade. Well I'll happily take a repair if it's free, but seriously? Do I just want another 900p screen... Calling again now... ...
