I have owned this R2 for almost a month. It is my 3rd R2. This unit was PERFECT except for this eEeEeeeEee sound coming off the motherboard when plugged in and turned off, Plugged in(Not charging) & brightness issues after resuming from sleep mode.

I have tried the following to fix this issue:
    1.Replaced motherboard
    2.Replaced speakers
    3.Replaced both 5870M GPU's(2) & CF cable
    4.Refurbished battery :(
    5.Refurbished AC Adapter :(

Because I'm on my 3rd R2(Brand New) because a on-site tech messed up previous R2's....I have been battling it out for new parts with a Dell Tech/CSR Supervisor. I refuse to put refurbished parts on a brand new R2.

At this point I was convinced it was the refurbished/previous AC adapter & battery.
Sooooo after going off on quite a few people I finally got Dell to send me a new AC Adapter and battery.

The new AC adapter and battery solved my plugged in not charging and EeEeEeeEee sound coming from the motherboard!!!!!! Before I could do certain things to produce the sleep brightness issue....but now I can't.

Dell previously offered to swap me out a New R3 fully loaded for all my troubles.

I'm soooo glad I have a better than new R2 that fully works. Now I know that every inch of this unit is done properly(There were mistakes like loose screws & a sticker over the primary GPU from the factory).

Maybe this post can help other users with the EeEeeEee sound & Plugged in(Not charging) issues without reading through a thousand posts.

good to hear that mate. I'm suffering from the eeeEEeee (i don't know how to better describe it too :p ) problem. Besides this the unit is perfect. I'll give dell a call to see if they can change battery and power adapter as soon as i'll be home. Im in madrid airport right now, traveling back home.

No way to get an exchange with an R3.... if only the M18x will be released soon....

    Thanks....
I'm Lovin it :D At this point in time I can't find anything wrong since changing out the AC Adapter, Cord & Battery. Now I can sleep in the same room as my M17x R2 without hearing that annoying EeEeeEE mosquito sound!!

Make sure you tell them new not refurbished!! The first time they sent me refurbished and it made the MB make the same sound. The way you can tell when it arrives is that the box will have a refurbished sticker on it and the rubber feet on the bottom will probably show signs of wear. It also will lack the new smell.

I know this may seem far fetched but here goes.....after changing out the AC Adapter, Cord & Battery my overall performance from boot, gameplay(FPS) to opening & closing aps has increased for the better.

I wonder if Dell/Alienware would let me keep my old battery without consequences?
