So after many months of looking around the prices for xfire 5870 kits have come down to reasonable prices, is it worth some 350 euro's to upgrade my M17x R2 from 4870 xfire to 5870 xfire?

If not, is there another interesting GPU upgrade for this model?

Definately some other options, You can go with a Single ATI 6990M which would probably be just as good as dual 4870s, but without the crossfire hassle. You can also get dual 6990s, or 6970's so long as you get the Clevo cards. Other cards will work, but your fans will be stuck at 100%, 100% of the time. Clevo cards work perfect with the fans. See Sig :D

Yea, if you overclock the 6990/6970, and the 920XM you can have power issues, but at stock clocks, everything seems to work pretty well.

Biggest issue is the Price. NBR Member Phektan sold me mine, I had 6870s, and sent them back for an RMA and ended up upgrading to 6990 XFire because I wanted to do some benchmarking. I like MOAR power!

The benchmarking thread is pretty full of overclocked benchmarking runs on them.

The overclocked runs were done for number chasing. During these, we struggled to keep the system from throttling due to the power draw of the cards and CPU combined.

I'm eager to see if the 7 series cards will work in the R2, because if they will, that will be HUGE. Especially since I hear they will have new tech and be only 65w, which would eliminate any power related throttling due to the mobo/bios/psu.
