I recently purchased an i7-920XM off ebay from shirleyfu1117 for around £240. as you could imagine i was crossing my fingers that it was actually a CPU, and further that it was the 920.
After a week of use it's working like a charm. Couldn't recommend this more. My previous chip was the i7-720QM and this bad boy is way faster.
Following the Wikia guide for modding the m17xR2 wasn't too hard either.

So if your a bit of a techie and considering this upgrade (warranty voided i assume), have a read of the guide, take your time. I reckon it's well worth it...

Next I think i will get some top end thermal paste and pads and do the GPU mod to keep those fans from spinning crazy fast.

I put a Vertex 2 into my R2 yesterday. It's the most simply task I know, but it's my virgin voyage, so to speak, so it took me very very long to get things done lol.
