    Hello,
i have some questions with alienware 17 ranger,

on a days i bought alienware ranger with:
    4700mq processor,
    r9 m290x gpu,
    4x4 ram 1600mhz,
    screen b173hw02,

Why i see poeople who have ram with speed 2133? We can put those?(i got 4930mx from another dell)
secondary question is with screen, i read some about that laptop and i saw tutorial with upgrade for 120hz 3d, can i put another screen, like screen 3/4k?(already got eEP cable)
Last question is r9 have 2 or 3pipe heatsink, which one is best and easiest for upgrade to MSI 1070?

Laptop dont come yet but i want to upgrade it soon

2133Mhz RAM is fairly expensive now but they do exist and DO work just fine in the Ranger.

You can upgrade to the 120hz panel but you need to get the eDP cable and the screen, which are generally sold separately. There is also the 8-bit / 120hz / Matte screen that works on the Ranger to, but require a little bit of modding to fit correctly but electronically is completely compatible. The direct upgrade 120hz panel is 6-bit / Glossy. Its still a great screen and I use the same on mine.

You can get a 5 pipe GPU heatsink and a 4 pipe CPU heatsink online that are bolt on upgrades on ebay. The MSI 1070 will require some additional modding though to the heatsink. The VRMs get too hot without additional heat displacement which causes the card to throttle. You can search for loafer987's thread for what he did to fix that.

That link will take you to a list of mods for the machine, one of which is the screen upgrade with the part numbers.

maybe ure right, better to buy those 4/5pipe heatsinks from ebay, but what if i want upgrade with 1070? there are no problem with ram temperature and throttling? What max temps you have on cpu with that 4pipe heatsink? huge different?

You'll have to Mod the heat sink if you get the msi 1070.

4 heat pipe will allow at least 4.0ghz maybe up to 4.3ghz. I had a problem with my vrm wouldn't allow for much overclocking.

I ended up getting this one as well. I still had to grind down a corner where this heatsink was touch a choke on the other side of the ram chips. I have the msi gtx 1070. anyways.
This heatsink is really good. i also got the matching one for my cpu. i have i7-4900MQ. Back to the 1070 heatsink It keeps my 1070 before 70 degrees So that is pretty impressing. just make sure you have all thinkness of you thermal pads right

He hasnt written me back either of late.

Its the better fan but its still controlled by the system so you dont get the full fan speed. You will have to splice the wire and create a switch to bypass the PWM control

ok understand thanks for answer, but right now i am trying to replace screen, i bought both used cable+emmiter and used screen(D02 version from hp pavilion), but when i put everything back laptop wont start, first 5 beeps cuz i remove cmos battery and now 8beep all the time it looks like lcd problem. That operation is pretty easy, but should work just with swap screen and cable or i should do something more? When i look at screen from close i see level lines but not on all screen some on right middle and left side

    p.s- sry for my language

I cant say for certain as I am not there to witness every action you took. There could be any number of mistakes made.

    sbios != vBios

They are unique in that they are separate, having the AMD card will have no affect on sBios flash.

R9 290x does not support eDP IIRC, so if that card is still plugged in, you will need the 1070 or 780m/980m to boot with the eDP panel.

I THINK the 680m also works but I am not certain on that.

Just in case you dont have the 1070 yet, might work as a cheap test card.

Yeah that would be a good solution, but you will still need to replace the gpu in time but of course you likely know this obviously.
