For a BR burner, Dell uses the Panasonic UJ-235A slot-load dual layer burner.

Not sure about a reader, but I think I read they use the Hitachi-Toshiba brand.

In theory, it shouldn't matter which exact model of drive you get. There's a standard size and connection for all laptop optical drives.

Without actually looking at the internal drive in the Alienware, I'd say that the worst you have to do is to remove the plastic fascia from the front of the drive in order to get it to fit behind the Alien's case.

The biggest problem will be finding a slot-load drive instead of a tray.

I would watch out for these - I have just received my SECOND drive of the exact same model, different seller.
Both have mechanical problems preventing them from accepting disks - in fact it looks like the exact same issue.

Something is wrong with these drives (at least some of them) hence why they are going so cheap.

Did you buy it off ebay? I wanted to change out my dvd drive to blu-ray but Dell wanted way too much money, I looked on ebay but the cost was still really high.

    Which model did you buy?
