Just spoke to an alienware rep and asked what it costs to upgrade my 460m.
He said 344 dollars for the 560m
and 900 dollars for the 580m
Is it worth the upgrade or shall I stick to my 460m?
Thanks.

... 900 Dollars for a 580M?
I'd call again if I were you.
Clickie -
@Seph im sorry I dont understand is it worth it or not >.<
-
I'm saying I think the tech was trying to rip you off. I'd be very surprised if the upgrade the to 580M is $900, considering the upgrade from stock is $325. Call again, get another tech, and see what he/she says the upgrade price is, and if you can talk them down.
-
You could get it cheaper on ebay
-
Just called again he said 700 dollars for 580 different rep... worth it?
-
I am saying the same thing to everyone nowadays
wait until CES 2012!!
less than 20 days man, come on
-
Actually, I dunno if we'll see anything at CES. Usually we would have seen rumors by now. I think if we do see anything, it'll be announcement only. I could be wrong, but I'm thinking Dell will wait until Ivy Bridge rears its head before they refresh their lineup.

And no, $900 for a 580m is expensive and NOT worth it. Plus the 560m isn't much of an upgrade over your 460m
In the meantime, i would overclock your 460m (if you haven't already) to 560m speeds. That's like a free 560m upgrade -
But I heard overclocking can ruin my card =[ is that true?
-

It will not ruin your card...as long as your don't overvolt. Worse that will happen if you overclock too far, is your screen will freeze or you will bsod. So then you reboot and set the OC slightly lower.
just FYI, the 460m and 560m are the same cards. Both have 192 nvidia cores...but the 560m runs at higher speeds and is slightly binned better and power optimized.
i don't know of 1 460m that won't easily do 800mhz core/1600mhz shaders/1480mhz ddr5 (These numbers are faster than a stock 560m). I have a 460m in another laptop so i have lots of OC experience on it...the temps hardly go up overclocked to those numbers -

First download MSI Afterburner here:
MSI Afterburner
Next, after installing, start it, and you want to create a profile with the overclocked numbers.
So click on profile 1, click the link button to unlink the core clock and Shader sliders...
Then slide the :
Core Clock to 800mhz
Shader Clock to 1600mhz
Memory clock to 1480mhz
Then SAVE...
Then "apply" profile 1
Thats it enjoy! You just got a free 560m upgrade
Here's a sample of what afterburner looks like:Attached Files:

the 460s run pretty cold, so you should be able to OC to those numbers without having to repaste. But every card is different. So temps will vary. The only way to know for sure is to try it
-
Even with the standard 800/1600/14xx overclock applied, I can max out my 460m and easily maintain temps under 75c with a room temp of around 75F.
Looking at it another way: 460m = underclocked 560m
