Hey been great admire of the forum and found huge amount of information, i just have one small question. I just brought 7970m AMD graphics card for my laptop i currently have gtx560m wondering, if the bracket i currently have will be ok to use with new graphics card or would i have to buy new brackets? If so could anyone link me in direction to where i could get affordable/rite one please.

One more question i thinking of upgrading my ram and cpu could anyone link me in direction for some top end stuff? i Currently have 2630QM and also 12g ram at 1333 i wondering if i could get in range of 1600? if that can go in my system.

    Thanks Lorenzo

    Hi Lorenzo25!
No, the NVIDIA bracket will not fit to your new card, you need this

Yes, memory will work at 1600MHz with 27xxQM and above, and at 1333MHz with your 2630QM.

And one more thing: check carefuly the thermal package of new card (gtx560m has 75w. I suspect the 7970m AMD has 100w). The heatsink can be different.

So i have upgraded to 7970m and followed the install guide on here yet after installing the drives and my laptop reloads, the graphic card don't work and comes up in device manager as not working.

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

That is what comes up inside the box, anyone have any ideas?

Where did you buy your card from?

Last time I had error 43, it was a dud card...

    Try this:
    - uninstall drivers
    - use Driver sweeper right after to clean all GPU related stuff
    - reboot into safe mode
    - use Driver sweeper again to clean remaining stuff
    - reboot to normal mode
    - install drivers

Ok it seems to be drive but i can't seem to find drive that works it installs but at end come sup with big yellow question mark saying something failed when i look at log it shows everything installed success. I tried install the graphics card via device manager and its worked but then when i reload my laptop i get bluescreen just been i meant to log into windows.

I then can't log in and i have to f8 and drive sweep and delete the files and then i can log in again.

    Hi, Lorenzo!
It looks like NVIDIA/ATI driver conflict. That is realy hard to find and correct OS registry manualy to make system working. Consider it as your OS is damaged.
The fastest way - boot in safe mode, back up all your info to separate (i.e. external) HDD, format disk C, do fresh OS intallation, drivers in srict order.
I don have experience with ATI video drivers for long time so I can not give you proper advise.Go to software part of forum and find proper ATI driver, possibly modified for your system.
Also, if you have extra 2.5 HDD you can just swap HDDs, install OS and drivers to see how new card works.
And again: What do you see in BIOS? Was new card recognized correctly?
    Good luck!

Thanks for reply, I did a fresh install of windows which stopped the crashing. Only crash when trying install drives and yes grp is showing up in bios as ati gpu and not showing windows error code 43 anymore in device manager. Only trouble I am having as I said is installing drives it gets to display and flicks black then goes white and crashes. Have to hard restart and then go safe mode and delete all files to log back in or take gpu out and it works again. Any ideas of good set of drives tried loads it seems no differences.

Tried another fresh install and when installing it went to flicker and then turned white and stayed that. I pushed my power button to go sleep and then wake back up and my screen was back to normal and it says install complete and this is the log.

    Hi. Lorenzo!
Strange situation. Go to m17r3 specialized forum, ask owners with exactly your hardware for drivers. Probably someone else got similar situation. Also, the problem can be your new card. Try to exchange the card (If I were you, I'd chose NVIDIA card ;)) .Upgrademonkey provides a warranty for their VGA cards.

Can not imagine this is a driver problem if you do a fresh install and have your symptoms.
I think it's very likely you have a defective card.

Think it maybe due to me having to flash the card to get it to work or something along the lines, as i never did this before and don't want to damage it. Going return it and go for the gtx 680m, i never had problem with gtx as well and i feel better using that thanks for all the help.

Funny thing about all this since i re-install all my old card, its been running much better same with my cpu it seems :D
