When I got the m17x r3 I went with the normal 4gb of RAM, but now I'm ready to upgrade this to 8gb, my question to you is, are these better than the basic 4gb (2x 2gb) RAM that comes with the Alienware.

And more importantly, will it work on my r3?
Thanks.

yes these will work. These aren't faster or better than the stock ones.
You could just keep your existing 4 gigs and add 2 x 4gigs for a total of 12gigs.
Getting to ram slots 3 and 4 takes a little more work though -
Might just do that, thanks!

Just go with 12gigs
here's a guide on how to install ram at bottom of the keyboard:

i got nervous when i was unclipping the keyboard lol...but it all worked out in the end

Its pretty easy
just need to be extra careful coz of the cables.
-
Tip is its all the screws with the "I" next to it. It was kinda hard to tell that from the service guide.

the service guide didn't tell me anything really except to take the battery out and two screws to remove the back panel. I got my info from youtube...someone posted a vid on how to get to ram slot 3 and 4.
At first i thought i only had 2 slots which was extremely disappointing but i later saw that ram 3 and 4 were empty in the bios -

I marked all the screws that needed to be removed to access the ram slots at the bottom of the keyboard. -
Thanks
hope it can help a lot of people here.
