The seller is being manipulative and is trying to fight the issue while changing the story, I now have no remorse for him as its quite obvious he was covering something up. I really hope E-bay can back me up as I have all of the information prior to him changing the story and I can explain how its not my fault the card doesn't work. Am a bit frustrated right now, but I hope everything goes well.

Good luck! I hope you win.
No wonder the card wasn't working even with the MSI VBIOS. I'm sorry to hear you got screwed on the card.Tenoroon likes this. -

If I do end up getting that Dell 1070, would I need to put the X-bracket from the 880m on it? I actually have no clue what the X-bracket does, could someone explain?
-
The bracket is for fixing down the heatsink to the card

I don't think so. Cards usually come with an X bracket attached to them, but look at the pictures just in case.

Am still talking about the 1070 with the seller. He has told me that the Code 43 error is common on this card (??????) and that it means the drivers had an issue being installed (also ????????) If I remember correctly, a code 43 either means the card is dead or that it needs a new vBIOS. I'm assuming that the card is dead mostly because it should have either worked with the MSI vBIOS or the stock Dell one, but its bricked. He also told me to talk to Woodz about it (this also makes my theory correct that the seller knows about Woodz) but Woodz has been gone for the past month or so. I understand Woodz flashes vBIOS's for people, but does he do it with a programmer or what? If the seller needed to flash the vBIOS to get it to work on his 1070, why would he need to use Woodz?
-
Woodz is not a support guy, he actually quite dislikes having to support sales that have nothing to do with him professionally.
Code 43 can occur when the vBIOS is wrong or the driver doesnt install correctly. Naturally also can mean a dead card. As long as the vBIOS you had was the correct one, of which there is more than one, then it should output to screen.
Only way to flash unto a card that doesnt display is via programmer, its actually the recommended method of doing so, but that is due to if things go incorrectly then you are back to the programmer -
Edit: Well, I will admit, it would be nice of Woodz could maybe give us some more info about this situation, but I fully respect his decision if he doesn't want to comment on it. -
I have already sent him some people that couldnt get it working, and while he is happy to help at the time, the undertone is that he shouldnt be the default support person if he wasnt part of the transaction.
He doesnt have a magic wand though, he uses the same methods we do, programmers and driver modification. Programmer is pretty cheap, in fact I may have one sitting around here somewhere from when I was modifying the tdp of the 1070 for my Ranger. -
As for the programmer, I may get one if this situation lingers for a bit too long. I also want one in general as I got a free 770 quite recently from a garage sale, it was said to be not working. I've always wondered if a new vBIOS might give it even the smallest sign of life, but I understand the odds are against me. -
@Reciever What vBIOS programmer did you use, do you have any recommendations?
-
For me is strange that he changed the vbios to the dell one when he has the m17x r4 so it doesn't make any sense.
If you continue to spend time and more actions to fix a broken card he will use that as a reason to complain and to pass you the responsability saying that you were the one who broke the card.
I wouldn't bother much more in this subject after his answers, actually I would request a refund after he change the history of the card.
You are most probably spending time for a card that has issues, he told you why he wants to sell the card? Because for my knowledge the best card for the m17x r4 is the 1070...soooo why?
If you take too many time to request the refund it will get harder each day..

I would look at the Mobile Pascal TDP Tweaker thread, lots of good information there about what is suggested. I am standing on the shoulders of giants on that front.
-
The seller and I are still talking, I have to wait until the 5th to get Fee-bay to decide what happens, if they don't side with us, I will take your suggestion of asking Paypal.aconix likes this. -
it is always complicated when this happens..

Its just good to have with pascal, never know maybe my board was sketchy and thus wouldnt let me push more than 118w. If you can get 150w it really lets the 1070 stretch its muscles. I was on my 4th motherboard at that point and when I killed the audio when I was messing with the BUS I kind of retired it.

No problem. There are some other standard form factor MXM 1070s for around $400 as well, but of course they're not as good as the MSI variant.

Alright, The seller made sure he could ask Fee-bay to step in first. He did a little after midnight. His response was basically everything that happened, and it seems like this guy had everything set up for this situation. He has since closed his Paypal account, so I don't know if I can even try Paypal if Fee-bay fails. I feel the only chance I have at winning this is being able to point out a few lies that were in his messages and his response as there are a few things he has either changed the story with or lied about.
-
UPDATE:
I have since called Fee-bay and they told me as long as I ship the card back within 10 days, they will refund me if the seller does not. So I guess I can say that I won. I am going to clean off the card and will be getting it ready to be shipped.
Edit:
I don't know if this is the vBIOS chip, but when the card originally arrived, I thought this was just leftover thermal paste that the seller accidentally got on the card. Upon further inspection it seems to be some kind of small dent in it. I feel like an idiot that this passed my mind, but IF this is the vBIOS chip, then could this maybe explain what was wrong?
(The card is on a towel that is on a wooden table, it is NOT on carpet)

That definitely looks like a VBIOS chip. I'll need someone else to confirm this however since I don't know where it's located on this card. On the 1060, it's located on the front instead of the back.

****, the Amazon Dell 1070 is coming straight from China. Should I fall through with it or wait for something else?
-
-
Also Receiver, if you haven't already, get ready to pack the heatsink and fans. I'll talk to you about those in a few days. -
Some people decided to take extra standard MXM form factor boards meant for Quadro GPUs and stick GeForce cores onto them.

There were a few members here who have used them and any issues that came up seem to be more from the EC freaking out than the card being faulty. While I personally went with the MSI 1070, this was for two reasons.
A. I could directly copy other threads
B. A good deal for one came up and the seller was willing to hold it while I sold my 1060 that I had at the time.
So it was more a matter of circumstance than me strategically seeking out the MSI 1070.
They seem to be reliable, not sure if I would overclock one past the 115w envelope but tuning a voltage curve should be more than fine. Plus if you are looking at the Amazon version just check out the return policies and make sure you are covered in the event of a lemon. IF it is coming from China, then you wont get any shipment for a couple of weeks, Chinese new years and all iirc
Also I found my 860m, I have no idea if it works anymore, but when ever you pull the trigger on my GPU heatsink ill throw it in there for ya. It was given to me from a member here and I'd like to pay it forward. -
As for what I said earlier, I know that people make up companies. But I guess what I really am asking is if say, repair stores had a ton of Quadro PCB's and excess 1070 PCB's and said, alright, time to put the 1070 die on the quadro. Or did Dell just say okay, we have a ton of Quadro PCB's so lets put some of the 1070 dies on the quadro PCB's and then sell them to private shops or people. I'm not the best at putting my brain into words, I just want to know what the minds of the people/companies were like when sticking the 1070 die on the Quadro PCB. -
Dell likely had 0 input on the matter.
It likely just came down to they had a large number of PCB's for expected orders that went unfulfilled for various reasons, and likely many 1070's that never found a home, came back via RMA, or other various means I cant fathom at the moment. It was the same for the 4980hq and its family of CPU's showing up for a while, as dies themselves dont tend to actually die, quite rare in fact. So they pulled them off and fitted them to rPGA adapters and sold them off.
As for the 860m, just forward it to the next guy/gal that has need of it after you are done with it.Tenoroon likes this. -
Will do for the 860m
-
Alright, I just pulled the trigger on the Amazon 1070. It should arrive from late February to early March. I also bought an X-bracket as the one on the 880m was on pretty tight and my clumsy self managed to snap it while getting it off.
As for my plans on the 1070 upgrade post. I will post that when my 1070 comes and is fully working. I don't have the MSI one anymore, but I can still kind of show where the cuts need to be made to ensure the fit so others know where to cut to get it to fit right.
And Receiver, I appreciate you giving me the 860m. I don't mind downgrading my GPU temporarily so that I can have a usable CPU, I despise my current 6700hq as it runs hot, and not very well (3.1ghz all cores ??????????????) Gotta love the early intel BGA garbage -
I have no idea if it works anymore so dont thank me yet lol
Its been sitting in my closet for about a year now (in anti static bag) -

Okay, the package WAS delivered to the seller, but USPS says the seller wasn't able to sign the package, therefore he did not receive the package. I may be screwed as Ebay may not give me my money back because it has to be delivered to him. I don't know if this technically counts (in my opinion in should because it shows I delivered it back to him and he either wasn't home OR he knew and didn't sign the package.) I am getting very frustrated with this seller as it is quite obvious to me that he had this setup. All I can do now is hope...
