I'd like to upgrade my video card and unfortunately.. I don't know how.
I'm thinking of getting an AMD Radeon HD 6990 for my M17X R3. Is there anything I should know first before I purchase one? And what are the steps for upgrading a video card?

I had an AMD 7970M in my Alienware m17xR3 when I sold it and it worked perfect for many months... You may consider going higher than the 6990, which is quite a old card.

Instead of the 6990, you could use the 7970 :) It's way better :)

    I paid below 400 for a used 7970.
There are cards as low as low 400's with DELL VBIOS even promotion cards from upgrademonkey.
Thats about 30 % more than the 6990M i could find on Ebay, and about 80% faster. :)
