Hey guys, currently I have the i7 740 1.73Ghz processor in my R2, as I thought the price was way to steep to upgrade the processor with Dell (was that good assumption?). Either way, I'm considering buying a processor myself and installing it, either by myself or with a tech.

Do dell offer some kind of tech service for this? Also what processors will work with it?

The upgrades you can do will be either an Q820M, Q840M, 920XM, or 940XM. Your best bet is to get a 920XM (ES) off ebay. It will be an engineering sample, but will run like OEM. You'll need to keep you original Q740M just in case you need to send it in to Dell for warranty service, but the (ES) will save you money vs. an OEM. If you buy the CPU from Dell, they will send a tech to replace it, but a tech will not put a non dell CPU in your system. With the level of support and tutorials here, it's plenty easy to do it yourself.

Also the differance between a 940XM and 920XM is minimal. The 940XM only uses one more multiplier i7 920XM is at 24 vs. i7 940xm is at 25, which is irrelevlent since throttle stop allows you to overclock the CPU by changing the multiplier. Both have the same overclock potential.
