Upon closer inspection of my outlet m17x r3 I think there are some issues with it. Yesterday When i was charging it I hear strange.. hard to hear high pitched electical noises coming from the back of the laptop, When I unplugged it, it stopped. I havent heard it today, it comes and goes. Also, on the left side of my chasis between the side and the palm rest there is a bit of a gap in which I can see the ports from the inside, Also, when i opened the bottem case I saw I was missing 5 screws, unless they are not supposed to be there? There is like 3 on the right side of the battery hole, and two on the left. I attached a picture of the places where hold were but no screws were, can anyone verify for me that they are or are not supposed to be there? Also attached is the picture of the seam in the case. You an see the flash glare on an internal conector. What should I do? Thanks

anyway have any advice? thanks

I thought I read here someone had a bad power supply that made the high pitched sound. The seam gap would bother me. Was it scratch and dent? I'd try and see if they'd replace it.
-
nope it was a certified refurbished. so they have to replace this right?
-
Call them and say you received the unit with missing screws the gap and the power supply has the high pitch explain you want to exchange it. If you say no to a tech coming and no to a discount they will either refund you our exchange it.

the problem is i got this at the outlet. I got a really high specced model for a super cheap amount using the 25 percent off coupon.. so how would they exhange it?
-
ive had so many issues with alienware ... losing faith in the company
so i would call order support for this? or technical support?

Dandan...does the computer work fine otherwise?
Refurbs are like used cars, they wont be 100% perfect. BUT, if you just got it, you can call them and they will probably help you out as long as its still under warranty
As far as I'm concerned, those external blemishes are nothing. Missing screws are just screws. As long as the computer kicks butt, thats all i would care about
The high pitched whine is a common defect with the powersupply and cord...they will replace that without hassle -
The buzz is from the laptop, not the charger. It's coming from I side the case when I plug it in. And that gap and screws really bothers me. The gap lets in a lot of dust and makes the notebook look like its falling apart. Of it had a scratch or something that would be different. But I feel like it has defective hardware issues. Do I phone tech support or order support for this stuff? I want to see what they will say.

Don't worry, if you just bought it, they are going to be nice -
Quote from SlickDude80.................Refurbs are like used cars, they wont be 100% perfect.
How wrong you are........got mine 4 weeks ago with the 25% off and it is flawless in every respect....from fit to finish and every component working as it should be. Then again my refurb has the lastest processor, memory, video card and wireless card. I would not have gotten one that did have have the lastest components because these are the ones that are either new order cancels or returns. Buying anything less and you are asking for trouble.

bro, used cars can be in great condition too!
Most of the complaints we get in here about scratches, faulty fit and finish, missing screws, gashes etc...are from refurbs. I've seen enough issues with refurb complaints that i can guess based on the complaint if it was a refurb or not. For example, there is no way a new laptop is going to be missing 5 screws. Just not going to happen.
Yes, you do save a boat load of money on them. that is the biggest plus, but your laptop has been through many people's hands and might or might not be in perfect physical condition
Plus the Dell techs are so rough with the laptops that i'm surprised that not more of them are in worse condition -

anyone else thing that seam is really weird? I mean you can see the usb connectors and stuff.. a little drop can just fall in there and fry everything.

I just looked at the pic again. It is off a little. Did you try to move it back into place? Kinda looks like the tech quickly put everything back together again and did a half job
-
both parts dont budge unfortunately.

just got off the phone with tech support, after trouble shooting for an hour, and even talking to his supervisoer, they determined there is too much wrong with the notebook to fix it. So they told me i need to send it to the dell depot, so their techs can fully check it out. I cant do that, need the computer for school, so essentially dell tech support told me , too much wrong with the comp so we cant fix it, we can either send it to the dell depot or return it. I told them this was unacceptable and this is all the tech team can offer, but to call customer service support or something tomorrow, explain that tech cant fix it, explain that i cant send it to the depot, and HOPEFULLY I can get a swap. Its really annoying, that they couldnt do it though. we will see what happens tomorrow
Upon closer inspection... M17x faulty issues?
