Have you tried installing the VMWare Tools package on the VM? You can do this by going to VM > Install VMWare Tools... (This is for VMWare Workstation - may be different if you're using Server or something else.)

The Tools package contains a number of drivers, such as video, sound and network. It also installs a system tray icon that can be used to shrink the VM and perform other maintenance.

it doesn't matter what pc you install vmware workstation on as far as the guests are concerned. the guest always sees the virtualized hardware as the host. even w/o tools installed, you should see basic devices for all those items. tools will give you better resolution and sound but you won't be able to install drivers for the actual hardware in the system - that's just not the way it works....
