Let us know how it goes. I'm in the same config boat as you. I just want the black screen on resume to go away. I'd almost take a FPS hit just to see that resolved.

That started intermittantly on one of our systems after upgrading to 275.50 drivers and/or Origin with BF3 install.

Yeah its a pain in the @$$. The only ways I combat it are to set the lid to sleep, set the display turn off so high it never engages and sleep the machine every time I'm away from it for more than 5 minutes. Even then it still seems to happen every once in a blue moon. Though with lid set to sleep / wake up, toggling it thru a sleep / wake up sequence 4-5 times has at least 3 times shaken it out of this "hung state". I am however always leery of this as there is no telling what havoc it plays on the hard drive.

Maybe I will roll back to the dell reference drivers and see if this wake/sleep hang up disapates before trying the 280.26 drivers.

I've installed the 280.26 already on my laptop, a G73SW. Between the 275.50 and 280.19/280.26,... 280 gave 1 extra fps on TW2 and Metro 2033 starting from stock core clock. My stable gaming OC is at 825 / 1685 memory.

    Hi,

    Im new here!

Got an m17x R3, GTX460m, 60hz and though i might drop some report on how it works on this system.

I've never got the 275 driver to work, BSOD on startup as soon as I managed to install it with modded inf.

Anyway, downloading 280 now and will report back asap.

I can now confirm that this one indeed works!
I've restarted several times successfully without any BSOD (unlike 275 driver).
Can however not say anything about 3D functionallity (or SLI), Im just happy that I can enter windows without any problems.

    System:
    Alienware m17x R3
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (fully updated)
    GTX460m
    60hz 1920x1080 display

I have these running on my 460m machine as well and have had absolutely no issues at all. No BSOD's, random restarts, trouble waking up from sleep or anything. And actually have had slightly better performance from the GTX460.

From what I read on the nVidia geforce website, the WHQL drivers after this release will not require an .inf mod for alienware laptops.

Had PCI Express Gen2 enabled for a long time, only had it briefly off on one of the drivers that caused a few crashes, but an updated driver and slow downs in Witcher 2 made me re-enable it. I rarely have any crashes (like once or twice a month) so never worried about it.

Working fine for us so far. Upgraded from 270.50's because wake up on sleep did not work 1/3 of the time. 280.26's have same issue but realized just close the lid and re awake and it usually works, instead of a reboot.

    Will try 3d soon.

Wow, I've been waiting for this driver release for months now, and it's finally come through with the changes I'd hoped for.

    1) All World of Warcraft graphics options are now enabled and I can at last see sunshafts and the new water effects that came with Cataclysm.

    2) 3D games that refused to run with the 460M even when explicitly added to the exceptions list are now all running under the 460M with 280.26.

Those were my primary concerns and I am very happy they've been addressed. Optimus has become much less annoying now. Now I can look at things like frame rates and other more minor concerns when I start to use it.

DarioG, thanks for making these available. They're a real lifesaver.

Sadly, Dell will likely no longer update drivers for the 460m now that the 560m is shipping instead. :(

Indeed. You're the first person to my recollection who's ever gotten that reference. And that's after 26 years of using it, first as a "radio personality" for a few years and then online since '94. I usually have to explain it.

And I'm pretty damn disappointed if that's true about Dell refusing to update the drivers for the 460M. They really left Optimus users high and dry with that one.

Alright guys I just registered so I could post this. I was having the same weird issues with the whole PCI Gen 2 thing on the M17xr1 with the SLI 260's and the 9400 onboard. 270.61 saved me, well I also disabled PCI Gen 2, so now I'm wondering: can anyone confirm that these drivers allow PCI Gen 2 safely and without crappy crashing? I mean I know PCI Gen 2 doesn't do a whole super bunch, but come on, I should be able to use what I pay for.

Anyway, yeah if anybody has the m17xr1 with the 260's and pci gen2 enabled with these drivers and it runs well, etc., then please reply on here.

Thanks guys, and I'm happy to finally join this place. After all that time browsing the forums for help.

Wow. So...just wow. Dellienware truly butchered the 260 setup then, is that it? Good grief. Well I'm happy where I am with 270.61 and no PCI gen2. Thanks for the feedback, KracsNZ.

    Hey guys,
I've been struggling ever since I got this Alienware m17x for the past two weeks now. My default driver is old and the new drivers are not rendering the 3D correctly. I have the nVidia GTX460M graphics card. I just tried the version 280.26 patched in this forum and was hoping my problems would be solved - but apparently it still isnt :(

The driver works great though for the graphics etc but when it comes to 3D, the glitch happens. In my previous driver, the 3D images were more like two images stacked on top of another, slightly gapped. When viewed with the 3D Vision glasses, it would look perfect. However, after the driver upgrade, the images become red and green instead and this doesn't work under the 3D Vision glasses. I've tried so many version of drivers and have been desperately looking for help even on nvidia forums. Can someone enlighten me please? Anyone else using GTX 460M on their Alienware M17xR3?

    Thanks in advance guys.

Go into your nvidia control panel. In Set Up Stereo...your display type should be Alienware 3D vision notebook not 3D vision discover.

Hey widezu69, I did select Alienware 3D vision notebook. In fact, when I select 3D vision discover, after running the test it will automatically revert back to Alienware 3D Vision notebook. I managed to get v275.50 off the nvidia shelves working for now. Thats the latest working driver on my side. Willing to try anything to get the 280.26 working as well.
