Got my second m17x r3(returned the first due to dell error) today which is the one I was keeping. I re pasted my cpu & gpu, installed my HyperX ram, installed my secondary drive and then came the vertex 3, I was excited for it and decided to overlook OCZ's past history and give them a shot, now I knew there was some tricks that needed to be done to get it working properly on a m17x r3 which I was fine with except it was a bit concerning that the drive was only functioning in Raid and not ACHI but I did eventually get it to work only to be met with a BSOD occurring on windows boot consistently and causing a boot loop.
so I immediately called newegg, returned it and just overnighted a 250gb Intel 510 to myself. To all those who got your Vertex 3's running I'm glad, it seems like a nice drive, but for me its just too much bull for a debatable minor performance increase.

dioxcyde,
Sorry to hear that. Hope the 510 works out for you. Did the problem start happening after installing the nvidia drivers? Just wondering if there is an issue with the nvidia drivers or nvidia drivers matched up with a Vertex 3. Have not seen anyone with a 6970M have a problem yet. Time will tell I guess. -
Another victim for OCZ. Be shure to write a feedback on newegg. I think you will be pleased with the Intel drive
-
it was during the 3D driver install that the SSD failed, and after that I wasn't even going to bother trying to fix it.
sucks, I really did want to give OCZ a chance but I'm not going to deal with hat much frustration for a $500 purchase -
I dont think your v3 is faulty. You installed windows successful, so a bsod may not indicate the ssd's issue. Might be other hardwares.
And please consider carefully before u write any feedback. Im not OCZ fan and I am returning my vertex 3 too, but not because it is defective, simply because the 510 is now cheaper.
I know OCZ has kinda bad reputation to some people, but that does not mean their products are all bad. Each company has its own strategy, intel focuses on reliability while ocz focuses on benchmark, etc. But I dont think we should have that much bias towards them. Just be fair. Choose whatever you feel comfortable with, but if something wrong happens please dont blame them as if they are the worst in the world. -
Im usually all about making it work, it shouldn't BSOD on ACHI to begin with yet EVERY vertex 3 does, and a lot of people with 460Ms are reporting BSODs which I found to occur on the 3D driver install. we shouldn't have to force the drive to work while Intel and Crucial are producing SSDs that are basically "plug and play". so I would say it is a faulty V3 and that pretty much they all are, the fault is a lack of compatibility that they should be handling.
like I said in an earlier post, i was all hyped up for my V3, but that kind of trouble over a wide range of users is simply intolerable in my opinion, so for those who wanna fuss with it to get it to work thats fine and I hope it runs great, but for me I would simply rather go with Intel and know what I'm buying is reliable and well backed by the company producing the product. -

yes, they dropped about $100.00 in price. However, after Ny state Taxes & shipping I paid $645.16, and my shipping is only 3.99 for UPS Overnight because I am a Prime member...so its still a bit more then what I paid for the Vertex but idc at this point

General Discussion Vertex 3 issue with Alienware
OCZ support = Zero, they know the drive have issues with ALL DELL laptops. -
-
Yeah it's just weird that many dell users posted at that thread with the same issue, apparently this issue exist from last year with Vertex 2 and dell computers until now with no fix yet.
-
Wow that one guys review on the intel 510 on amazon is pretty harsh. Good thing we have intel systems to support trim.
-
-
lol nice, I got my 510 today and it was plug and play up until the drivers, then a driver install caused it to bsod as well, I am on it now but I had to remove the Nvidia Drivers to get it working, gunna try Darcoders custom driver and see if it works, also gunna make a new thread to see if I can get to the bottom of this.
The intel drive did flawlessly install windows on ACHI which is what rly mattered to me, So the drive is great, gotta figure out what dell or nvidia did to screw it up =(
withought the nvidia driver i dont have 1080p lol so it sucks atm -
Now you can change the title of this thread to Both Intel 510 and Vertex 3 failed. -
I'm still stuck in the past, are you guys getting whatever is on the nvidia site for drivers? Or do any of you still get drivers from laptopvideo2go?
-
I tried using the disk that comes with the alienware...am i doin it wrong? lol -
That driver has issues being used on a fresh install for whatever reason, the one on Dell's site is newer from what I recall, try that.
-
Ah, so sounds like it's best if drivers are freshly downloaded instead of used from DVD.
