I am finding it difficult to find info on the r3 with a vertex 4. Anyone have one running in a r3? Trying to decide which drive to get. All opinions welcome.

Its either a Crucial M4 or a OCZ Vertex 4 going in my rig

You sure you are not going to consider something else? Otherwise apparently the Vertex 4 has issues with the mobile '77 chipset. Out of those two, M4 for a first timer. Otherwise I recommend the Corsair Performance Pro or Plextor M3P as those two are practically the M4 but with highly optimised firmware for uber performance.

The vertex 4 does not have issues with the mobile HM77 chipset. It works just fine. I have one in my system. And an M17x R3 has a M67 chipset anyways not 77, and it should work just fine in there too. They are really fast.

Other than f/w upgrade what did you do to get the Vertex 4 running.

And to respond to why those two.... Im cheap and going for the best price I can get.

I didn't do anything special, it came with the latest firmware (v1.5) already installed.

Ok i pulled the pin on the 128 Mb Vertex 4... Was $72 CAD.

So all i should have to do is A08 and Bay #1 and f/w if necessary?

I bought Vertex 3 for my R3 and it was pain in the , freezing like hell, had to return it. Have two M4 (128 and 256) and both works flawless.

Vertex 3 is a totally different drive, although I have one in my desktop at home and it has been fine.

Yeah, although I'd expect it should come with v1.5

I would go with the Sandisk Extreme to be honest, it's faster than my M4.
