Hi. I'm new to this forum but I have had my m17x for a long time now. Its an R2 with dual 5870's and the i7 extreme with 8GB of ddr3.
I have been playing new vegas and recently I have been getting REALLY bad fps! I can never get over 60 and alot of the time I'm only getting about 20 to 15 fps. It drops the most when I'm inside of buildings, but i get good fps most of the time when just roaming around outside. I am also getting low fps in other games like starcraft 2 and l4d2 and I never used to get low fps in any of these games until a couple of months ago.
I'm running on High Performance and I know that stealth mode is not turned on. I installed the newest vbios and drivers for the cards and nothing is helping. Please somebody help me fix my alienware!!!![]()

Bump! I need help with this if somebody can show me all of their drivers and bios info in CCC that might help maybe I have the wrong combination
-
bump! come on people maybe im just used to people answering me really fast on other forums and should be more patient haha
-
I'm posting some pictures of my software and hardware settings in CCC for you guys to compare with your own laptops.

you are aware that there are much newer drivers then that? you're using 10.8, 10.12 are currently out.
-
would switching to 10.12 raise my fps back to normal?
-
there must be something wrong with my computer. I cant seem to update to 10.11 or 10.12 the only CCC I could get to work was 10.10.... for 11 and 12 they would install but CCC wouldnt show up when I right click on the desktop.
With 10.10 I'm still getting really bad fps in new vegas about 20 to 35 all the way up to 60 and it just fluctuates. If anybody can help me get 10.11 or 10.12 to show up on the desktop after installing them that would be great. Also should I still be getting crappy fps with 10.10? -
I finally got the install to work for 10.12 but have not tried playing New Vegas yet.
Can anybody tell me if I'm up to date now with everything?
-
nope I'm still getting really bad fps it was only a small increase in performance. Now I wont go below 28fps but it still wont play at a solid 30 or 60 it just fluctuates. I have the newest CCC I have the newest vbios and I believe I have the newest drivers for the cards. What else could be slowing me down? I have run a complete virus scan and nothing came up.

my fps in new vegas went up a little but I tried running the benchmark in GTA4 on all medium settings and only got an average fps of 14. Do I have broken graphics cards?
-
also I have tried with Xfire off and on there is no difference in performance

got on the phone with tech support and we created an even bigger problem now the computer wont restart properly and will only go to the desktop in safe mode I have had the worst luck with this computer the past few months! Tried to do a system restore and it failed both times I tried it and I'm just waiting for the tech guy to call back.
My m17x keeps freezing now ever since we tried to update one of the graphics drivers and do a restart while using the alien connect so that he could have control of my computer.
when will this nightmare end????? -
it only gets worse!!!!!!!!!!!! The guy told me to do a system restore and that it would take awhile so he would call me back in 20 minutes. I gave him my number he said it back to me and had the correct number but NEVER called back!!! he also didnt give me any reference numbers so I could retrace the call and everything we had done. I ended up having to talk to a new person and explain EVERYTHING that I had done with the other guy and start all over again. His shift ended and I will have to call him again tomorow but this is just crazy. I called to get one thing fixed but ended up having 2 things to fix instead!
This day just gets worse and worse I'm about to just throw my laptop in the trash nothing is helping! -
This does sound like a software/ driver problem reading what happend after a system restore.
I would do a completely clean install (you could opt for a decent deinstall of the drivers, using driversweep) and see how it goes from there. Run a benchmark with just 1 card, switch on the 2nd one and rerun the benchmark and see if you see improvements. It could be something simple as a driver, or your xfire cable not making a decent connection (though you should be able to see this in CPU-Z for example, or in system info from 3dmark).
Did you check (before it didnt work at all anymore) in for example CPU-Z if it showed both your GPU's as working? You say you did not notice any difference when turning off xfire, which obviously implicates the 2nd card not working as it should (be it a driver problem or a hardware problem). -
Make sure you are not running on battery mode, and try turn it off, unplug the power and take out the battery, then keep press power button for 10 sec. then try again.

Make sure to download & install the latest crossfire profiles: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/crossfirex-app-profiles.aspx
