I've noticed that when I turn my volume down to 0 on my AW17, a bit of sound is still comming out of my speakers.

I think this might actually be Windows 8 fault, but I just haven't noticed before because no other laptop can play this loud.

    Can anyone else replicate this?

Nope, mine might as well be muted...but I have not stuck my ear right up to the speakers, if there is any sound it isn't loud enough for me to hear it.

If you actually mute the system does it still happen?

    Hey man

I have the same issue with my AW17. I am using Windows 8.1 but my laptop shipped with Windows 7 and I had the volume issue in both. I have to mute it when I don't want any sound to come out...

P.S: It's not random noise, it's the actual sound of whatever you're doing (movie, game...)

Yeah exactly, it's deffinitely the sound of whatevers going on in the background that I can hear.
And yes, if I mute it it will kill it completely, but the whole point of this is that I have volume up and down bound to the macro keys so I don't have to press two buttons to change the volume. It's one of my biggest friggin pet peeves about laptop designs these days, it seems so clunky.

I wanted it with brightness aswell, but that just wouldnt work. I called Dell and apparently theres a hardware restriction(??) that just makes that impossible. Makes no sense at all in my head.

Huh.....well I tested this and mine does it as well :S .... although I have to literally stick my face against the machine to hear it haha. How do you hear that

Not really an issue for me since I can't hear it unless I plaster my head against the speakers :p

How interesting. I just ran around the home testing this on all our laptops (no AW17 though) and the most I could hear was a low hum. I played a few movies on each laptop for testing. Perhaps this is a software glitch, maybe more members will post and add to this list. Hopefully it's not a big problem.

Can't hear anything on mine. I believe it is a Windows related issue. Try running updates. Or there's always the option of doing a clean install, if it's really annoying you, lol.

I can hear them. Got one of those annoying apps on my iPhone.

When the volume is on 0, he shouldn't be hearing anything. Pretty sure it's Windows related, but it could be the speaker(s) failing.
