Western Digital now has 1 TB laptop drive out, I would love to slap this in my new M17x R2 but this line has a me a bit worried, anyeone know?
WD Scorpio Blue 1 TB SATA Hard Drives ( WD10TPVT )
*TPVT models are 12.5 mm high and may not be compatible with all notebook systems. Consult system specifications for maximum allowable drive height before attempting to install.

Most notebooks' drive bays are only designed to hold 9.5mm height drives; I don't know if any M17x owners have been able to install 12.5mm.
FYI the WD10TPVT's performance is not that good and it takes a long time to spin up.
There are some 750GB 9.5mm drives available. -
12.5mm drives fit in the second HDD bay of the M17x, but only if you bend/break off the little plastic retainer the M17x has to hold the HDD in place (it's not really needed, since you can screw the caddy in anyway - although you might have to use longer screws or bend the screw holes of the caddy slightly to screw the drive in). Some people have done it successfully in the past. You can search the forums, there should be several posts about it including photos. It does not fit into the first bay, however.

I really wouldn't risk it. Just stick with the standard 9.5mm thick drives.
I'd actually recommend looking at a 500gb Seagate Momentus XT. It's basically a 500GB hard drive, but with a 4GB SSD read buffer that really speeds it up. It's close to the speed of an SSD (in reading, anyway) and it's very nicely priced too. A very nice primary drive.
WD 1TB(!) drive
