Hello all. If you could help me with any advice, I'd really appreciate it.![]()
I ordered the Nvidia 3D Vision bundle set of the M17X-R3 when it was on sale a month ago. It will have 8 gigs RAM when I get it later this month.
One of the reasons why I bought this laptop is because I would like to start up a live streaming cast for video gaming: both console and PC. I have a Wii, XBox 360 and PS3 that I would like to cast with.
I remember someone told me on my first post that simply connecting a console via HDMI to the M17X will not work for a livecast. I heard I need a capture device of some sort to be able to display the console gameplay.
I heard about the Blackmagic Intensity Pro and Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle. Here is a link with information:
Blackmagic Design: Intensity Tech Specs
I also heard about the Hauppauge HD PVR. Here's a link for that device:
HD PVR Product overview
Now, I heard that either device would be good for my purposes... but I have some questions. Is it even possible to use the Blackmagic Intensity Pro with the M17X? I don't know anything about laptop hardware, but it seems like this Intensity Pro uses a slot for a desktop... am I right? Many people told me that this Intensity Pro card is the best, but if I can't use it... are the Intensity Shuttle or Hauppague HD PVR going to give me anything close to the performance of the Intensity Pro card? Also, is the Intensity Shuttle compatible with the M17X? I know it has the USB 3.0 ports, but does it have the graphic compatibilities?
I also was thinking about getting serious on the software side and getting Wirecast 4 to run the show. It's expensive, but it's got a lot of options to make my show look extra nice. I also heard about XSplit, which is free and has less frills, not to mention that it sometimes doesn't work if there's maintenance being performed by XSplit... but it does the job of streaming the gaming content fairly well.
Anything else that I may need? Other software or hardware? Any recommended microphones?
Thank you again for any help. Cheers.![]()

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
From what i have read you wont be able to use the pro. but the shuttle maybe
Installation: USB 3.0. Requires an x58 based motherboard with onboard USB 3.0, or a USB 3.0 PCI Express card and an x58 or P55 series motherboard. Does not support USB 2.0 capture and playback. Please check the Support pages to see the full system requirements.
the p67 chipset might not be compatible I would shoot them an email to find out. -
Thank you.
I just wrote to the company asking about the p67 chipset. I'll let you guys know if it's A-OK.
I was thinking... if it works via USB 3.0, technically it wouldn't be too far off in performance compared to having a desktop with the Intensity Pro card... don't you think? Sorry, I don't know much about computers, so I hope this isn't a far-fetched assumption. -

As long as there's no major lag when I broadcast the games, I'm totally fine with using the Shuttle.
But I'm thinking the Shuttle is a better option than the Hauppauge because of the USB 3.0 connection, right?
It's gonna cost a pretty penny, but I'm really excited about doing this. Having a gaming livecast is definitely is a good way to clear the backlog of games that I have been wanting to beat for years. -

The shuttle seems better it can go upto 1080p30 which is good. The Hauppauge only does to 1080i. and yes the usb 3.0 is better than the 2.0 of the Hauppauge.
I have never used either of these products so I cant comment on more than specifications listed on their sites and the shuttle easily looks better than the Hauppauge. -
Roxio game capture
Roxio Game Capture -
The Roxio was the first capture device I heard about when I decided to make a livestream show, but the drawback is that the capture resolution is only 480p for broadcast. For a bare-bones, it does the job... but the Shuttle is still what I'm leaning towards because of the USB 3.0 support and the 1080p capture resolution. Thanks for pointing it out, though.
Want to start a gaming livecast... what do I need?
