    Hi all,

I have owned my M17x R2 for little over a year now with no issues to speak of (Knock on wood/my head). My warranty has since expired so I called Dell to see what the cost would be to renew it. They stated $328 for one year with NO accidental coverage $468.00 for two years with NO accidental coverage. I was wondering if you all thought that it would be worth forking out the money or just replace something if and when it goes bad? If you think its worth the money should I also tag on an extra $138 for the accidental coverage to either one of those figures?

    Thanks for your thoughts,

    Truckin

    It's usually pricey for extensions.

I think I paid around 600 bucks for 4 yr extension. Longer the period, more bang for a buck I think. Ofcourse you do pay more upfront.

M11x was about 200 dollars cheaper.

I may try to get the 2 year plus the accidental coverage which would put it at around $606 bucks. It would cover everything though.....

Did you buy your system with a credit card? If you did, chances are your credit card automatically extends your manufacturer's warranty by another year. I know my Amex will match the exact terms of the warranty by another year. I called the insurance rep from Amex to check how it works and they told me they will try to repair or refund me the purchase price. All I need is a copy of the recipt and copy of warranty terms.

Check with your CC that you did you purchase with.

Personally I think buying the extended warranty is a waste. I get the 1 year and get another through Amex and if it breaks afetr 2 years, you're due for a new system anyway.

I completely used to agree with Gandalf on warranty(especially warranty like Bestbuys) until I bought systems that retails between 2-4k each, and experienced Dell's warranty system replacement.

My original systems were M1730, and M1330, both with 3 yr warranty ending early 2011. Both systems were replaced with systems on my sig, and I ended up extending warranty for another 4 years. I think I spent around 1.2k for both system's warranty extension, and I'm pretty sure I'll get another replacements between now, and 2015.

Well I ordered using my dell preferred account so would have only gotten 1 year if I did not extend it for another 2 years including accidental damage coverage. I'm past my first year of warranty and I'm getting the flickering problem with crossfire and dell is sending a tech to replace the motherboard, both video cards, heatsink(s) too. Earlier they had already replaced the motherboard for another unrelated problem. So I think it is definitely worth it so far.
