This will be my last thread.

After so many problems with the R1 i'm pretty much over it.

    Here lies the final problem.

I purchased my laptop brand new off of ebay. (Still in box and everything.)

The guy I got the laptop from was supposed to do the ownership/warranty transfer. (Cannot get ahold of him now.) I will be calling dell to take care of this personally with ebay/paypal receipts.

I have the guys number/name/address which matches the warranty/ownership right now.

The problem i'm scared I might run into is that I heard alienware ownership is not transferable. (I'm not sure about now seeing that dell combined with alienware.) Esp. for the M17x which is advertised by dell itself.

Can I get some info about how to go about this? Transferring the warranty and if I will even be able to. (The laptop still have 5 months left for the manufacturers warranty)

I did call them and see if the guy even called about it. They said they have it where he called and asked how to do it but never took the steps. (That looks good on my part at least.)

So even if I am able to get ownership transfer... Will alienware/dell Aknowledge the warranty if it was placed in my name?

Thanks guys for all your support.

    Shouldn't be a problem, unless...
Unless that guy purchased the system through Dell Financing and still owes some money for it. This can even take a few years till he pays it off completely.
That would be the only problematic case, IMHO.

Well I've had an Alienware Dell M15x warranty transfered to me by 5150Joker when i purchased my first Alienware laptop from him (I guess not everyone is as reliable as Joker.. ironic as that sounds).

Furthermore I have recently sold my M15x, and have transfered the warranty onto someone else (I don't know if it went through.. but I did it right in front of him, and I haven't heard back from him regarding this (lost his phone number when I changed phones).

So as far as I can say, I see no reason why the M17x should be any different, r1 regardless. Hope it all goes well mate.

I transfered my M17x R1 to my buyer on ebay and I still owe $300 on it. It's all revolving credit to DFS (who isn't affiliated with dell)and it's called unsecured debit, so they don't care as long as the payments come in, and then it's not like they're going to come after you for a repo. Because they can't, because it's unsecured.

You can do the warranty transfers online and usually if you have the Express service code and the Service Tag that is enough.

If you have the name and email address of the original owner it helps.

but I have managed to transfer a Dell warranty many times with just the Express service code and Service Tag numbers which comes with all Dell Systems including the Dell M17x

@ Lozz, Hmm, are you absolutely sure that the buyer not only got the same warranty but could also extend it while you still owed money?
A few people on this forum claimed otherwise (being the unlucky buyers), they couldn't get the warranty extended till the previous owners paid the rest of their debts to Dell.
I still owe Dell a lot of money and was considering selling my R2, so I might look into this soon.

I received a confirmation email confirming the transfer. As soon as it's transfered it's the buyers. So he should be able to extend the warranty if he so wishes, although the OP is just trying to transfer the warranty, not extend it. Like I said, DFS is unsecured debt, so they have no legal right to place any hold on any merchandise purchased with the credit. A mortgage is secured debt, if you don't pay they'll take your house, the same with most car loans. Most credit cards are unsecured, the worst they can do is send bill collectors after you and negatively affect your credit.

Yes all that is needed is the express code and the service tag info. That is all I was required to input at the dell site.

I did later though upgrade the warranty to 2014 with extended hardware and accidential damage warranties. Cost was $627 for the four years. A bit high but having a machine worth all the initial cost (high) is worth it to me. Most everyone will drop their machine or spill something into to accidentially, It is just a matter of time.

I'd especially buy this protection if you travel by air and place the machine in with the cargo not carry on.

sadly they only transfer basic warranty. this happened to me, i bought it in Malaysia n moved to Ireland, after the transfer, they said that my 'accidental warranty remains in Malaysia' and refused to fix my M17x-R1 caused by accidental demage, not sure if the accidental warranty will be transfered to the new owner tho'.

Was in the same boat as you and tried to do the online transfer which kept giving me errors, had the owners name, address, zipcode etc but no joy. Put in a trouble ticket explaining I was trying to extend the warranty but got an error trying to transfer ownership. Rep called me from DELL and $365 for 3 year All Care and it's all transferred.

Sorry for the bump, I've seen the form for DELL international transfer but I can't select under product - "Alienware" - Is there a specific alienware form?
