I don't have anymore money to renew it.. is there anything of concerned to get fixed that is a trouble that may go out soon?

My keys from ship date have always been crooked, but never got on it. Also some HDMI connectivity issues over the last few months and the left speaker seems to rattle more when anything bassy or loud like coldplay goes through it. Other than that, anything I need to worry about? Such as lights, screen, fans, etc?

    Well, you never know.
You should maintain it properly once every few months (i do it once every 3). Clean the dust, repaste, etc.
HDMI connectivity issues may be software or driver-related. Crappy speakers you usually just replace for cheap.
You could try sending it in for warranty to take care of all those things for you before it expires :D You never know what kind of lucky might strike you.

I would suggest that you do a thorough diagnosis of your system and get all the service your laptop needs in this month. And after the warranty period just try to take extra care of it.

    Hope it helps!

Every 3 months is a bit extreme... the more you pull apart your rig, the higher the chance of something randomly not working when you put it back together... I would only do a repaste once temps start to creep a bit high.

@lif3t4k34: I would normally agree, but for one, this little machine builds a LOT of dust, and secondly, I've noticed that after about 3 months the thermal paste I use (Prolimatech PK-3) starts to lose efficiency and I can no longer sustain the overclock. I keep my CPU running pretty hot (~92-95C) so it could be that.
Also, that's a seriously awesome machine and OC you have running there.

Yeah this is a valid fact, on a M17x though I would hope that the fans and cooling would be adequate that the CPU wouldnt often go over 85... and obviously if a repaste is in order make sure you dust everything while its apart. I forget that the M17x is much easier to disassemble so I guess it is more feasible. Have you considered using a different type of paste sangemaru? I know Arctic Silver 5 doesn't even burn in until 200 hours of use.

And thanks too, almost got it stable at those clocks but it is taking a lot of fiddling around and having all sorts of issues... the joy of overclocking...

92-95C is pretty high actually, I would lower down the OC a bit.

Repaste? I know nothing about opening up my computer, I had someone come out to install my 7970m, lol.

I don't know if there's any dust, I asked about the temps a few weeks ago and according to everyone here, they said they were pretty fine.

Anything that is hinky right now is going to be totally on your own wallet in less than a month. If you can get it taken care of now for free while it is still under warranty, get it done. And be sure you look into warranty reinstatement as soon as you are financially able to do so. The thing pays for itself many, many times over.

I know the OP mentioned that he cannot afford the extended warranty cost BUT he should ask himself the question of can he afford to put something right, out of his own pocket, outside of warranty? - chances are that if something like a gpu dies, the cost of replacing will be far more than the cost of the warranty. As things get older, there is more possibility of things going wrong.

Whist in warranty, it's going to be a simpler procedure to extend it. It would be at Dell's complete discretion as to wether or not they would allow a warranty to be taken out after it had expired. Although I have seen the odd example of where this HAS happened, I imagine it is not a common practice. No insurer in their right mind is going to re-insure you after a lapsed policy, and should something go wrong, you call them up saying that it has and you now want their help.

I'd look into all avenues of getting the money together for the warranty extension now, any way you can, to extend it before it expires...that's just my opinion anyway.

not to derail your thread but since you guys are discussing warranty my machine has dust scratches around the media bar, the right side of the power button, could that get replaced by the warranty?

I guess that would depend on whom you spoke to about it. Some rep's might help you out, but generally speaking, if it's cosmetic damage that wasn't reported when new, it's likely to be taken as "user-induced" (caused by you or general wear and tear) cosmetic damage, and therefore not covered.

I just bought an out-of-warranty R3. Should I get a warranty, and which one should I go with? Anyone have any personal experience?

I was playing the free weekend of Defiance, and the screen went black then showed rainbow colors. It's a 580m. Is this the auto-off throttling or a failing card?

If you have any non-cosmetic (i.e. warranty-covered) issues, you should have them addressed before the warranty ends if at all possible, especially if you're not going to renew it.

I stuck with the included one-year warranty and had my screen and motherboard replaced about a week before it expired (for dead pixels and stability issues, respectively).

Slight tangent, but how long do Dell usually take to process a renewal request? Mine runs out next month so used the Alien Autopsy feature on my m17x to apply but have heard nothing back :(

Am I just being patient? A week seems like more than long enough to me...
