So I snagged an R2 on the outlet this past Tuesday while the 20% coupon was active. I wanted to get in on the RGB LED action, so this forced me to go to the R2 route.
I ordered:
M17x R2
1920x1200 RGB LED
I7 840QM
8gb 1333mhz
256gb SSD
285GTX (Planned on upgrading to 6970m)
Blu-Ray drive with CD/DVD burner.
I didn't get the best price I thought but it was close to what I wanted. So I placed the order Tuesday and didn't get a shipping notice until Wednesday night, but to my surprise it showed a Friday delivery even though it didn't arrive at fedex until 930pm, and I just chose free shipping.
Come this morning, my doorbell rings real early at 9am and BAM - Good news! R2 has arrived. Then comes the bad news.
I ordered from outlet and specifically didn't order scratch and dent because I'm slightly picky about the appearance of things (Why do you think I opted for RGB??). And it figures, there is a deep scratch by the alien head on the lid as well as some other marks on the lid that I'm not too happy about. Some tape by the LAN port but meh that comes off. I figure whatever, I got an OK deal, lets just make sure I got what I ordered.
So I turn this thing on and WOW this RGB craze is no joke. It is the best screen on a laptop I've ever seen. So my pissyness about the scratches and dents starts to subside. I punch in my info for Windows 7 and it loads into windows...
First thing I notice is a little Systray popup that says something like "We recommend you enable SLI" and I'm like "OK well I didn't order 2x285m GTX so this things on crack". Enable sli and reboot and BAM, I did in fact get 2x285GTX even though I only ordered a single card solution! I very quickly forgot about the scratches at that point![]()
While not the greatest setup by any means, I'm pretty sure I wont have to go the 6970M route any more for the games I plan on playing which is awesome (Starcraft II & Diablo III are the top ones at the moment).
So yeah long story but I'm happy which is what matters. This thing is NIICCEEE and I can now join the Alienware club![]()
TL; DR;
- Ordered M17x R2 and got it quick (3 days)
- Found scratches on lid, got pissed because it wasn't marked S&D and these are some deep scratches
- Was amazed by RGB LED with 0 pixel defects
- Found out they sent me a SLI config instead of a single card config like I ordered, now I'm happy
-
nice seems like a decent trade off scratches for another gpu. if it makes u feel any better the rubberized finish on my mythogic system sucks and is already scratched. dam u clevo for not making a better case.

@Tweak155 Give them a call and they should send you replacements. -

Call and explain that you're not happy with the looks of the system and if they can send you the lids.
-
I just dont understand who allows a system like these to get scratched in the first place.

Some of them are returned systems and some users don't apreciate these machines like most of us do, or IMO is just their way of showing their sympathy towards Dell
not thinking that it'll be just another user's misfortune.

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Or in my case My NZXT Cryo LX's rubber coating wore off and scratched the bottom of my R2!

Dang they just posted a 2x5870M crossfire in outlet with RGB LED screen for $1209. That is even cheaper than what I paid after coupon lol.
But mine did come with 256gb SSD which is a good chunk of my cost, 2gb more ram, a notch up processor (720QM to 840QM) and blu ray. -
Or with the NP8130/NP8150, can get the 95% gamut screen option from almost any reseller. -

Just stay polite and explain exactly what you ordered etc. -
pics of battle scars please.

I looked at them again and they really aren't terrible, I was probably just overreacting. But I could see aluminum in 2 different spots. -
Yeah this reminds me of when I ordered an XPS 15 from QVC.com(a "6 easy payments" style site) because I didn't know if I would have student loans to get a better laptop, so I had to get what I could afford and be happy with if student loans didn't come in.(they did, thus why I am here)
Well, what I ordered was a XPS 15 with a black and white lid, but had an i7 with only two core processors. When it finally arrived, I pulled it out to reveal a multicolored sort of rust style backing. No big loss, that would have been my second choice, and I needed the laptop for class so I shrugged it off. After a while I considered "They sent me the wrong lid, I wonder what else is different" So I pull up the configuration and I learn that I got an i7 Quad core processor(the 2630QM). Everything else seems to be accurate to what I ordered though. -
@OP at least call them and tell them you'd like to get an RMA for return. At that point they'll most likely hang up on you a few times but eventually someone will stick with you and either give you an RMA (that you don't have to use) or either a) replace the parts or b) give you a slight cash discount to keep the machine. Either way you either get what you want or get something to make you sleep better at night.
It's no guarantee of course, but you can't lose for trying right?
We have some good news, we have some bad news, then good news again!
