Read below and also here : then those who want to add their voice / vote / post in order to get decent W10 drivers for the (not so) recent nvidia GPUs for our "few years old but already considered obsolete" aliens can reply here after me:
    « I am in ! ».

    Thanks.

I swear if the count is moving high I will bring the word to nVidia & alienware !

The point is that - among a lot of other misses - nVidia (or Dell?) is no more taking care about M17xR4 possible upgrade with 9xxM GPU and W10 - and even worst for the 120Hz 3D LCD ones that have definitively lost the 3D feature with their GPUs most recent than the 680M.
In a practical way, it means that - as far as I have tested - no recent genuine nVidia driver issued for W10 + 9xxM is functional on our M17xR4 (PEG 120Hz 3D or PEG / Optimus 60Hz).

On top of that and as you may know, W10 is having a new feature that can be expected nice: it is automatically updating also the drivers of the hardware of the computer it is installed on. It is including the GPU obviously and actually.
However this feature is fully beaten whenever a hardware company doesn't issue a quite decent compatible driver - not even talking about the frustration when this hardware is a GPU which costs potentially half of the computer overall price. The situation can even be worst if the hardware company is providing to W10 some drivers that are poor or not functional for some nice (and expensive) computers.

Let's suppose that you are in such situation - owning a costly computer with an even more costly GPU and no good drivers available on W10 when the smallest old notebook got one... For sure we are all genius (and rich ) geeks so we can give up this nice automatic drivers update and do it by hands (we have also plenty of time to do that right ?). But that is not so easy. Even if W10 claims the user can discard the drivers automatic upgrade feature, I swear it is not working on my computer - at least with GPU drivers on today October 19th, 2015 :(. The only option you have - thanks to a patch issued by bigbroM - is to forbid an upgrade that is identified by W10 in its list of upcoming ones. But this will never forbid subsequent other upgrades (or prior older upgrades present on this W10 list) for the same device .

One of the question we can raise - us the users ...and buyers - is « Why ? » or more precisely « Why 6 months after the start of deployment of W10 nVidia and Dell haven't so far issued a 9xxM driver automatically W10 compatible with the M17xR4 (same for most of its aliens brothers) which was sold until end 2013 ? ». This policy is IMHO hurting badly the image of Alienware who can again lose a part of its returning customers (I am myself a Dell/Alienware customer for more than 10 years (thanks to daddy); we bought them 6 computers and within them 4 aliens. I had no bad mood before but that time I am seriously considering changing my mind and leaving them because they are so stupid.

Dell/ AW/ NV (and others) main goal is to sell new products. If they continue supporting old laptops, no one will buy new ones. (that's what companies do, they sell stuff, they want more profit). The R4 is a 3 years old laptop, and don't forget that technology is moving so fast it becomes obsolete in a matter of a few months.
The R4 max P&P GPU is the 680M. 7 & 8 series need modded drivers. Maxwell behaves unpredictably & requires UEFI.
However, I still believe that Nvidia ( the way it's meant to be throttled) are the ones to blame .
I have a 980M + Svl7 vbios and tried every possible driver and every one throttled like hell, Except 352.84. ----> this is proof that the issue is from the driver and is not directly related to Dell/AW.
If it was caused by Dell/AW then I would see throttling even with 352.84.
