Ran into this yesterday when I wanted to check a HDD real fast using the diags DVD. While I don't use it, I traced this to the USB WebCam and figured out what the problem USB device was that I started seeing a few months ago in Device Manager was but never really had the time to trace it.

After trying Fn+F9 a few times it would come back and everything seemed fine in Device Manager, but whenever anything tried to use the cam it would either pop back to an unknown USB device or nothing happened. When it did pop the unplug/plugin USB Windows sound would play.

Before I get tech support involved I want to check the connection to the motherboard. I know how to open the system up to access under the keyboard (service manual) and started to do so until I got resistance with the Control Panel. Since I don't have my plastic laptop case cracking wedge with me I stopped for fear of damage and will attempt again this weekend with the proper tools.

My question is the Control Panel easy to pop off, or are there hidden clips I need to worry about? It almost feels like there's more than the two screws that are holding it down, or are the clips just that good?

    Thanks!
