Hi guys, Had this issue here for awhile which I initially choose to ignore until now where I find the need to move around more often. As shown in the video bellow, my battery reads and works so as long as my power cord is attached but 1-2 seconds after it is unplugged, my power will die and unless I plug the cord back it wont boot up at all.

before anything else, I would also like to mention that I have already updated my bios to the latest A10, did the power drain multiple times with my battery and cord removed, made sure my fn+ f2 is switched to battery enabled.

i suspect that the battery could be damaged as it did suffer a fall onto a hard surface once which was also when this issue started. However, just to sure i'm asking if there is any solutions to this first. :D

p.s: sorry for the bad video quality

Forgot to mention that my warranty has already expired and I do not plan to renew it anymore

hopefully its a battery problem go replace , don't let you sexy laptop suffer in any way :)

also when u get new battery never don't keep it inside while it's attached in power cord i mean when its fully charged , this is damaging your battery as far as i know if u really need to move somewhere for a bit then place a battery

Check the smart battery stats in HWinfo. What's the wear level?

I read recently that dell claim that the M17x has circuitry in it to stop a constant charge degrading the battery life, so either in or out, it just looses it's ability to hold a charge at the 'normal' shelf life :)

And as for leaving the battery inside, I've done that ever since I got mine the damage is negligible. If you take the battery out and the cord falls out then whatever you were doing is losy

also to be noted, i don't know if this is relevant or not but whenever i plug in my battery (current one), the charging status would go into charging for a few seconds or so before reverting back into plugged in, not charging. My battery is not full and currently at 90%. Another thing to be noted and reminded of, this whole issue started off a few months ago and I simply choose to ignore it by not using the battery the whole time until now.

as shown in the video, the alien head blinks orange (indicating that the power cord is disconnected) for a few seconds before completely shutting down. Throughout the whole process, I did not remove the battery again after i plugged it in

Your wear level is less than mine and my battery works just fine, so we know that wear level isn't a factor. What about current voltage (in the smart battery stats)? Mine is 12.745V. First thing I learned in automotive electricity is 1/2 a volt can make a difference between a charged battery and a dead battery.

I can add to that in that I see this also on my D430. Battery stays at around 85%. i have to run it on battery for a while then it charges OK. BUT I do know the battery in that is almost 'gone' as it only lasts about 30 mins.

It does sound like the battery is at fault but the circuitry could still be the cause

my current voltage is 12.278v . I suspect that my battery could be damaged but i'm just making sure first by asking around

Hopefully it is not the circuits that are damaged as my warranty is already long gone and buying/replacing the whole motherboard just for it would be a pain

The internal circuitry could have also been damaged. Dont really know until you try to replace the battery, charger, or some other way to reduce the number of possible reasons for the behavior. Did you drop just the battery? If that is the case just take the risk of buying a new battery (or find someone to loan you one). Dont really know what else to suggest. :(

Yeap, just the battery. Never once dropped my laptop or had any heavy impact on it.

This is good advice, if you know someone who has the same battery for your system, try that one. That way you will know for sure if what you need is a new battery. Check out this info for that issue.
