So I just got my M17x R4 yesterday and have been trying all night to get it up and running after putting in my own SSD. It's almost good to go but I am having a weird issue with the graphics switching atm.

It was on graphics switching mode to begin with, I hit fn + f7 to see the 7970m only mode, and when I clicked yes it reboot instantly (I got a glimpse of a blue screen that said "It's dead Jim!" but it was gone instantly) So it boots back up and it's telling me that there is no driver for the 7970m. I figure whatever, I need to install 12.7 anyways. So I wipe all my AMD drivers, hit it with driver sweeper and install 12.7 and the CAP no problems. It is now running fine in 7970m only mode.

But now when I switch back to graphics switching mode, it was telling me no driver for either the 7970m or the intelHD4000. I grabbed the latest intel driver from Dell, that one has installed and is being recognized no problem. But the 7970m driver still isn't being recognized on start-up. I can go through device manager and update the driver from my computer, then just pick 12.7 from a list, and it starts working. But as soon as I reboot, it doesn't recognize the driver again(only the 7970m).

If I switch back to 7970m only mode it sees the driver no problem, but it seems to forget about it every time I reboot in graphics switching mode. Any ideas why this is happening, or what I can do to fix it? I will leave it in 7970 only for now, but I would like to figure this out.

    Thanks in advance.

When you do the installation of the drivers you gotta make sure that you do it in the proper order. Give it a try with this article.

Also, use the drivers only from DELL.com for troubleshooting.

I restored from Alien Respawn backup that I made as soon as I got it. I tried doing a clean install following the guide in the forum but it eventually wouldn't even boot. Does the driver order apply though since I am using an Alien Respawn backup?

Yeah it could be better since you are using a clean install on your SSD and make sure you use the ones from DELL.

Alright thank you for the advice. I will have to go with what I have for the next month or so but I will try following that guide when I am off work next.
