    Hello all,

Recently (2-3 days) I started to experience weird system hangs on my M17x. It just freezes randomly and when this happens while some audio is playing (music, games, video, etc.) it produces a really irritating sound (something like ttrrrrrrrtrtrrrrrrrrr) ... it doesnt BSOD or anything, it just stops and i can't do anything but use the power button to switch it off. what could be causing this? It is really bothersome to say the least. If it helps, I'm running the newest 12.11 drivers with a OC @ 915/1388 and with Enduro switched off.

    Thanks, Pistino01

EDIT: I seem to have nailed the problem down... too soon to be sure but I noticed it mainly happened when I was watching online videos, so I figured that flash might have something to do with it and uninstalled it. So far so good... I'm going to keep running without flash for a while to see if that was the cause. If my system won't freeze again, I'm going to reinstall it and hopefully the problem will be gone for good.

exact same thing happens to me when i play diablo 3. funny thing is other graphically more intensive games are fine, it only happens in d3. i fixed this issue by switching to battery save mode in ccc so you might want to try it too.

Ok, the issue didn't disappear by uninstalling Adobe Flash... as soon as i watch about two episodes of The Simpsons, my notebook freezes... please someone help me. I really don't want to do another factory restore... Isn't there some kind of a problem report to post you guys so you can examine it or something? This is getting really frustrating...

Hey I am also sadly having the same issue. Except I am rocking an m17x R1 back from 2009. Have you guys found any way to fix this?

I had sort of the same issue; would I be correct in guessing that if you had headphones in at time of crash the buzzing would not play over speakers after removal of headphones? Argued with Dell for a while and got a new GPU, seems to have fixed it (but I still get one every month or so, even after mobo replacement for unrelated cause-my clumsiness/stupidity). But they said mine was Optimus related, and yours is an AMD system- so either they made something up to get me happy again, or we somehow had the exact same symptoms from totally unrelated issues. And I'm leaning towards the former.

tl;dr- had 460m, had system freezes, argued with dell, got 560m, (almost) no more freezes

Yeah happens with headphones only. Maybe it's the creative driver doing it?

My R3 did this as well. Mine started after dell replaced a faulty 580m. It only happened when gaming but I did notice it would happen every time the GPU got to 72C. A few seconds after 72C, bang.

Dell replaced the whole machine as this was the last in a long line of problems :(

I've confirmed this only happens while watching online videos... Yesterday i did a 2 hour session in L.A. Noire and nothing... then i opened up Chrome, in good faith that everything will be OK an then ina bout 20 -25 minutes BAM! There it was again... Couldn't it be something with codecs? Perhaps the 12.11 Beta11 driver has power management issues and has something to do with low power 3D mode (i noticed that during videos my GPU stays clocked at 150/300... i thought that it should clock to about 300/600) ... Tho I'm slightly confused when I hear you guys having the same issue, because as you can see we have radically different hardware and year of manufacture... Only thing we have in common is Win 7. It may be a conflict with some program and Win 7. Anti-Virus or something... I'm really just guessing now.

Sounds like a integrated graphics driver issue if anything, when playing online videos such as youtube my nvidia GPU isn't used its all on the integrated graphics.

Emm... I explained in the first post that I don't use Enduro... It's worthless in my opinion becuse I use it as a desktop replacement.

I leave my nvidia equivalent on personally, since I don't really experience any issues. Have you tried using the integrated graphics under the same video? do you get the crash with the integrated? I haven't been able to force the gtx 680m to accelerate my flash videos.

Also you could try disabling 'hardware acceleration' under flash possible issues with the driver and flash offloading high loads to the GPU rather than cpu, I know chrome has its own built in flash, so removing it from the system, does not remove flash from chrome.

EDIT: Try loading a 4k video on youtube, should give whatever GPU/CPU your using a more intensive process, hopefully that might be able to spike the crash more likely to help you narrow it down.
