Got a decent deal on a OCZ Agility 3 120gb drive. $75 new

I plan on swapping it out for my blu-ray drive.

Do I absolutely need one of these for it to work?

I know the sata power connectors are slightly different, but i don't want to bother taking apart my computer now to see if they'll fit or not - and if they don't are the electrical connections just a simple pass-through as in can I possibly file down part of the case on the sata connector in the laptop for it to fit onto the ssd?

It's a different sized connector. You would need the adapter in the caddy.

pardon my noobness, but I thought the m17x had two hard drive bays... does the blu-ray drive take up a bay on its own?

The M17x has 2 hard drive bays. The optical drive is separate.

That's not what I'm talking about.

This is what I'm talking about.

Checking the connector on the MB to see how easily it can be modified requires disassembling the entire laptop - not something I want to do twice if someone here knows the answer.

The m17x is able to run 2 HDD's without having to remove the optical drive, some people do that on the m14x but not on the m17 because it is not necessary.

It is if you want to run THREE drives, 2 RAID SSDs and a large storage SATA drive! That is what I'm planning :D
