As the title suggests - I'm hunting for a decent but not over-priced laptop bag to cart my M17x around!

It barely fits in my camera bag - but when i want to go hiking, I want to hike with camera not the hefty beast of a lappy!

    So what do you use?

I have seen a Targus at local electronics stores for $44(AUD).

    That's reasonable...

I'm looking on eBay and have seen some too - but any recommendations?

    Cheers

I bet that Targus one you looked at is the same one I have... I see it everywhere. I've used it for the last two years and I loved it. I always wanted the AW Messenger bag though so I finally ordered.... going to test it out and see how I like it, but again that Targus is really durable and is nicely organized pocket-wise.

I love the AW messenger bag for bringing my laptop to school every day but the laptop is very heavy and some people may much prefer the backpack version. It seems very high quality if I had to say. The zipper feels amazing and it feels very protective. The M17x is a snug fit in there so it won't be going anywhere. The protection it offers is great.

I have a really great targus that I also use - it's 17 inches, and fits more than what I need. Targus makes great stuff, so I'd have to recommend them.

We should post some pics of the bags we have... I'm not near either of mine right now.

I just got the AW-Messenger.... so I can't tell you how I like it. It's sitting in the box calling my name and teasing me until my m17x gets here.

Again though... if it doesn't rise above my Targus - it's going back. And my targus is very roomy. I had an m15x and had to buy the 17" notebook sized bag. It fit very nicely in there. Curious if the m17x will fit. It should though.

I'm using the Orion backpack. I had the Orion messenger bag but the M17x is way too heavy to carry on one shoulder and it gets sore/tired really quick. The backpack is great though.

I'll think that Targus is the one I'll get... Because it's available in the shops here (and lifetime warranty).

Glad you guys all posted here - it's damn hard to find a decent bag for a lappy with numeric keypad etc!!!

Will look at some of the others - but I don't live in a big city and postage really kills!!!

I don't think you'll be dissapointed... I mean, if you liked the one in the store and like it's design - it's a no-brainer.... especially since it's half the price of the messenger bag.

I am seriously considering sending the messenger bag back just to save the $$!

The backpacks we're tempting... but I just don't think the extra couple pounds are going to bother me. My Targus bag has always been loaded up anyways. The backpack, just doesn't "define" me, lol... no offense to others that maybe do alot of walking or bike riding who find it very beneficial, but I'm just not into the school boy look, lol! Still, even the messenger bag seems to me to be less manly... I mean, you're not going to pull up on your harley with either of the bags hanging from you, LOL! But at least the messenger bag looks a bit more proffesional for the office kinda like a briefcase.

Just my two cents.... and it's to be taken lightly, please! Just pickin on you backpack boiz! ;P

Why have a bag when you can carry and protect it in a 1495 Pelican Case with security lock :). Only about $130
People think I'm crazy but this is how I roll!!

Oh and by the way I carry everything else including my laptop cooler in a Sager 8120 backpack/bag. You can get this backpack from Sager direct for under $50. It's the best backpack I've ever used.

Yup, that's the one I've been using. Mine is SLIGHTLY different... I bought mine 2yrs ago, so it looks like they've add some cool new features - but for the most part - it's the exact same thing.

Now... I had the first gen m15x that I put in that bag. It would not fit in a regular 15" bag. Though ther was some extra space - I have not actually put my m17x in it yet because I haven't recieved it.... but I'm certain it will fit. bag is very roomy - lots of extra storage and stuff like that. Roomy and padded well. Mine has paint on it from work sites... animals have done their "business" on it - yes, I know. but a quick toss in the washer and hang dry.... like brand new!

    Good bag!

Oh yeah, and as for the briefcase style... AW used to have a nice one and I really wanted it, but I just didn't want to carry two items. Bad enough toting two kids, HD vid camera case, and whatever else the day may call for.

Will do... should be here any day. I double checked with my wifes 17" laptop... I know it's a bit thinner than the m17x, but seriously... ALOT of room to swim in there. There is way to adjust it as well to either tighten or expand the laptop pocket. It's velcro.

    I'm 100% sure it will fit. :)

I use the Orion Backpack, but like the look of the solid Pelican briefcase. My question would be, where does the power brick go? For my M11x I have a nice Oakely bag as well.

I wanted something hard-wearing but also quite stylish, so I've bought a Piel Urban Laptop Backpack. Not cheap, but being leather it should last a while, and it's airport checkpoint friendly.

It's currently in the hands of NZ Customs awaiting clearance, so I'll try and remember to post something once I've got it in my hands.
