    Hi all,

Big fan of Notebook review, infrequent poster...So I bought an Alienware M17x which I configured as such - for the following reasons:

Core i7-2720QM - Read somewhere that this was the best value
8GB Ram - Who needs 16GB? I thought 8 was already pretty damn excessive
Radeon 6990M - Cheaper than nvidia M580, and faster... I fail to see the drawback?
1.5TB Hard Drive - Wanted to upgrade to SSD + turn these into external HDD
Avatar (Alienhead Chrome Red) - Best Avatar, this is really really important.

So what SSD do you guys recommend as the best for the M17x keeping in mind the above config (which may/may not make a difference). You know I've actually read the other SSD posts in this forum, and others, but they were a bit divided. Hence, I'm looking for a second opinion.

    Thanks in advance!

Price is always worth factoring in. Prehaps Google "M4 v 510" and see what come ups.

Out of the box, very few Vertex 3's will work. You have to follow a particular installation sequence and then make a registry tweak afterwards. I also had to manually tweak into AHCI mode even though I did a clean install.

Having said that, after 2 months, I haven't had any other glitches and the drive is performing as expected. I admit there are times I get nervous because of OCZ's reputation versus Crucial and Intel. However, Intel's 310 issues have made me realize that there's a lot of luck involved.

I have had the Intel 510 for a week or so and it has been a amazing. Getting this SSD and and 750GB HDD has made this into a whole new computer for me.

Its a good choice. I have the M4 and im extrmely pleased with it thus far.

Just remeber, once you done your fresh install to upgrade your firmware from 0001 to 0002(thats if its not 0002 already)

0001 cause random freezes in Windows 7. It will freeze for like 2 mins and then carry on.

Th firmware upgrade takes like 5 minutes to do.

I have had the M4 for a week.

It did have issues with freezing up, but this was because I had to update to the newer firmware. Once I flashed the drive with the newer firmware, there has been no problems at all.

C300 looks to be the best in that comparison based on sequential access speeds. The performance gains of the M4 don't seem to be in the right areas. Any one have a C300 in their M17x and would like to comment?
