Cooler Master Storm, for the win.
-
Zalman nc2000
-
Yes, use a notebook cooler...get a zalman NC2000 (good quality for the money...almost cheap). It fits ok with my R2. I have one for over 3 years now and it's still woking great.
-
reped for the fast replys
-
The zalman nc2000 needs to be backfilpped,
this is how it looks like with my pc.

These are my temps, with stock paste, no mod etc. Only the cooler itself
View attachment 64890 -
Simplified : what program do you use for temp reading.
PS: i use the nc2000 in the normal position...i don't think having fans blowing air into laptop fans is good, i prefer they blow air under the plastic where there are no fans at all. -
I use HWmonitor32 for temp reading. As for the air blowing into the laptop, I have not had any issues yet.

NZXT Cryo LX
Perfect fit for looks and size, not loud . And performs very nice, foldable, easy access to the fans just in case. USB ports on the back.
I rarely actually need it as cooling system on these things is great, on R3 from what I saw it's even better! -
Cooler Master NotePal U3
-
Same here. Cooler Master Notepal U3.
-
No cooler here. The keyboard would be too darn high for me to feasibly use with anymore thickness. The cooling systems do a fine job on their own.
-
no cooler just a stable table when using on my lap.
temps idle arround 44c CPU 39/44c GPU's
Laptop is fat enough!
maybe if i get alienware monitor i will get one
-
Heard great things NZXT Cryo LX, most reviews Ive seen reccomand it if you want max cooling but it sacrifices some mobility and is more expensive than most coolers and it's the one I ordered (I think theres a guide on how to pick a cooler in the accessories forums.)

Calculus book from college.

Dookie is using his academics wisely. Who said you wouldn't need calculus in the future.

I'm running a Zalman ZM-NC3000U. Its big but totally silent even on high. At first I didn't think I would like it because of its size, but really does put the notebook in a good angle for typing. I like using it over having my notebook flat on a table plus it cools the computer.
Good review at Zalman ZM-NC3000U Notebook Cooler | Zalman ZM-NC3000U,Notebook Cooler,Review,Zalman ZM-NC3000U Notebook Cooler Laptop Thermal-Management Performance Review on it. A bit pricey though. There is a cheaper version ZM-NC3000 S without the USB hub on it -
Also rocking Cooler Master NotePal U3, perfect size for my m17xR3 and my ?computer caddy?
-
CptXabaras Overclocked, Overvolted, Liquid Cooled
Notepal U3 here also. Nice product
-
Thought I would add a few shots of my couch potato setup... and my m17xR3 on my Cooler Master NotePal U3.
For the price it is hard to beat this simple but powerful cooler.
Together they are very very quiet...
I also like not having to turn off the cooler when the laptop goes into standby... no reason to cool an asleep laptop.
Please ignore the mess...

Has anyone seen any real temp decreases using a cooler vs not using a cooler? Like greater then 5C?
I used to use a lot of different laptop coolers and stopped when temps either remained the same or decreased by 1C or so. -
I have seen 3-5C swings on other older laptops... but I use the cooler more to extend the live of all parts of the laptop.
Some of my older laptops had poor air flow on the hdd and memory. So i pump more air there... but the rest of the laptop benefited.
My m17xR3 seems pretty well designed air flow wise, but a little more can't hurt. And the cooler added a nice angle to the keyboard.. for me.. -

really really helpful if yourlooking for a cooler -
^^Best post I've seen today. Made me laugh in real life
-
LOL, that's an expensive cooler
-
So does the U come with the ac adapter? And can you charge something in your usb hub even if the computer is not on? Thanks.
Nice. Is the r3 solid on top? Or does it slip? Thanks. -
THis is hilarious. I guess I can honestly say that I got ripped off for what I paid for my lappy cooler
Damn, you guys all got good deals on your coolers---what's your secret??
-
Just ordered an sf-19 2.0 cooler. Hopefully the grey rubber wont be that bad.
-
I have another extra textbook somewhere. Do you want me to send it to you? There's no need for a cooler... I was playing BFBC2 yesterday for like 1.5hours (I kept getting shot by the super hard AI---I'm sucky at fps, but I really like the story), and when I exited the game, my max temp for cpu and gpu was like below 65 each. Room temp was about 65-70F (SoCal). From what I've learned from you wonderful folks, is to watch out for temps in the 80s. So yah.
-
A cooler is worth considering if you overclock; the CPU and GPU are pretty hard to fry but the same can't be said for hard drives. Accessing the SMART sensors on your hard drive can be enlightening.
If its stock I'd pretty much forgo the cooler the R3 very thick as is. -
I do notice that the computer gets absolutely NO ventilation on the center of the bottom of the computer (where our nameplates are, and where the ram would be). Any good tips to keep this cooler? MSI GX-series folks drilled holes in their bottom panels, but that's not something we'd do LOLZ. I'll ask the community this question again: Would our R3s benefit from a Thermaletake Massive23 unit? : Newegg.com - Thermaltake Massive23 ST 23cm fan Notebook Cooler Model CLN0009
-
Heh its a giant fan it should benefit you. I wouldn't be worried about temperatures on the R3 out of the box unless you're smothering it intentionally.
-
The only part that doesn't get "adequate" ventilation is that bottom/center part, cuz it's sitting on my calc book. The two fans stick out the sides so they're fine. I'm on stock settings/clocks/drivers, and run my games on max settings---should I be worried?
-
Don't be worried based off speculation...find out if you actually have a heat problem there. I'd recommend figuring out the temperature of any hard drive you may have stored there since they are more frail than the surround PCB.
Try any SMART sensor software like Hard Disk Sentinel - HDD health and temperature monitoring to see if the hard drive there is abnormally hot. For reference, 60C is the max operating temperature of most Seagate drives. -
Thanks for the offer dookieman! But I will be using this cooler for overclocking purposes. So I will be really needing this, plus the extra 4 usb hubs.
-
Oh thanks for the link! Cuz HWmonitor doesn't show temps for HDD or ram (is it supposed to)?
No prob mang. Just lemme know, I'll be glad to mail you a book if you needed one lolz. -
Yeah OCing is a fine reason to be using a cooler. Let us know how your OC venture goes.
-
Meh its just been my experience that not all sensor softwares are created equal. If HDD temp approaches 55C at any time then its likely your cooling is insufficient. Its much easier to kill the HDD than it is to kill off a CPU or GPU.
-
Dookie, Have you installed MSI afterburner? So that you can see your gpu temps and activity while gaming?
-
Not yet. Do I just dl the one from the link on here: MSI Afterburner ?
-
Yeap. That should be fine.
-
Thz for all the reply, decided to go for cooler master u3, got it from amazon for 28.99, Edd may24 ><
-
Would you recommend it after several months of use now?
-
COOLER MASTER NotePal Ergo is what i got and so far so good
-
TostitoBandito Notebook Evangelist
Zalman NC-2000. Lowers temps under load by around 5C across the board. Quiet too.
