I am pretty sure I know what I need but before I buy this card. I have an Alienware M17x R.3 currently configured with a 6870m. I remember i saw a thread with someone who built to order an Alienware M17x R.3 with an Nvidia GTX 580m. It had a little vent under the video card...my bottom panel does not. Is this a problem? Also do I need to update my bios(I think I should) From A04 to A08? And anything else anyone who can think of anything else?

    Thank you,
    lorddinky

    I have arctic silver 5*

The vent is not needed, it doesn't help much anyway.

You don't need to update your BIOS if you aren't using 3D. A04 will work fine.

Remember to observe fan speeds and whether they are automatic or not.

Also very interested in this upgrade :)

I'm rocking a 3D monitor though :( so I hope that doesn't change things too much. (aware of the BIOS upgrade necessity)

This is very interesting, there's a couple cards there that are more expensive then the 580m.
I understand that the quatro is more expensive, and that's the norm (I've got a Dell machine rocking one at home)
But the 480m is commanding $940?
    and the GeForce GO 7950GTX 512MB @ $1000

I'm assuming the 7950 is at that price due to rarity?

but shouldn't the 480m still be being manufactured?
