It will definitely run all games in high-ultra high settings. The 2nd generation i7 will run anything you throw at it and then some. The GTX460M is a mid class card that is highly capable of running these games on high settings at 35-40fps.

I would probably go with the 6970 if you want to be a little more future proof. Running current games at high-ultra high settings is a stretch with the 460.

what about the double radeon?? what are the benefits for that will it be that much more "future" proof?
*Also 2720 cpu? will it be worh going for it, other than sticking with the 2630?*

Double Radeon  Don't quote me on this, but I have high doubts that the m17x can even fit 2 GPUs.

I went with it, after reading up people's opinions on the performance/cost ratio and you could find some threads around here discussing the subject. The 2820QM wasn't worth it at the end of the day for its extra cost. The i7-2630QM is also a fine processor for many users out there, as if you're a gamer, you would be more concerned about your GPU more than anything else.

Whether you go with 460 or 6970, thank the consoles for making all games fairly easy to run.

Personally, I would if I could afford it, purchase the computer with the 2720, 6970, and the 1080p screen. Not just saying that because that is what I ordered, but because those are the items which would be the most costly/difficult to upgrade for an average user.

As the person above stated, the 2720 is the sweet spot in performance as is the 6970 between the 460 and 485.

I am please with the performance of the 2720 and 6970. Plus, I get around 5 hours on IGP when I am on battery.

    Thanks :D

Purchase your ram and HDD upgrade after you receive your R3. I bought 8GB of hyper-x from Newegg for $99 and my 120 Intel SDD from Buy.com for $170. Much cheaper that way.

I really feel this is one of those laptops where you can "have your cake and eat it too." Great for gaming, but decent battery life when you need it. Makes a world of difference in my situation.

There isn't that much difference if you talk about gaming. CPU helps in other matters as well, compressing, video editing etc. If you see I too upgraded only the CPU (2820QM :D), GPU, Screen & Blu-ray as those are the most important parts in the system and to do it later, even if you go for the ES version of a CPU it will cost you much more (+ it may not be under warranty of DELL). I will wait for another 6 months and then I will upgrade the warranty at probably 50% off for another 3 or 4 years. Anything will happen with the most important 'parts' in the system; Dell will replace / fix it free.

I had a problem with the M17X R2, with the motherboard and I got it replaced in 2 days. As per the memory, I also got the HyperX 4X4 Gb 1600 Mhz from Newegg as well. I ordered before also from them, they are very quick (but it takes a bit longer for the items to be shipped from US to Canada, even if you order from newegg.ca, it is the same).

Another + point is, when I ordered I tried to get the best discount possible from the guy and after a long talk I managed to take $300 off my order, which I think it is a good deal. Hope this helped

The 2720 will support 1600 ram while the 2630 only 1333. There are also several other features that the 2720 supports.

Doesn't really make much difference between the 1333 & 1600. Really good performance is an SSD. I use them from the last I think 4 years. I got an 80GB SSD intel first time and from that day, for the operating system I only get SSD. It is such a release not to wait for the programs to load and actually the programs to wait for you to make your move*.
