Moving to AW forum, I think people will be able to help you most here since it's specific to the M17x rig. My 2 cents is that even if it's last generation, it's a heck of a discount, and if you don't need the latest and greatest but still something that's very good then seems like a great buy.

First things first, I don't know if an Alienware laptop is right for you since you didn't even post what graphics card it has. Secondly, the system would be fine if you're looking for a cheap computer and won't be gaming hardcore.

If you wanted an Alienware with great specs it would easily cost you over 2000, so if you're okay with a low end old model then that is a GREAT price value.

2630QM isn't a bad cpu, it's performing very well, and I geuss for 600dollar even without a videocard I think this is even a great deal....

I'm just hoping the customer doesn't think this is a BEAST alienware... Because if he buys it and tries to max out games he will be pretty disappointed, going for budget deals isn't always the best choice. But if he just wants to do normal laptop stuff, and some gaming... this is an AWESOME deal. But very big and heavy if he's just going to use if for normal laptop stuff, then he should consider a different notebook.

my 2630qm is creaking along just fine for all the games I play. Still trying to figure out if its worth snagging an XM in the long run or not.

    In my experience, no.

No because m17x doesn't have multiplier and voltage offset in bios.

the Intel xtu 2.1 is also very bugy and new versions doesn't work.

The cooling also is not sufficient. my 2920xm can only do 2.7-8ghz due to heat.
