    Oh Pshaw! :D

R1 is the initial version of the awesome tech and most people enjoy the use of it thoroughly while other's hem and haw over whether or not to buy it or wait for the R2. So for 6-8 months while those with the R1 are enjoying the new tech those in wait continue to grumble about when the R2 will come out. Then when it does, many still grumble about how it is not that much greater than the R1 and meanwhile those with the R1 are still having a grand time! Finally when the next new Alienware Laptop comes out, those with the R2 will whine about how it makes their new and expensive systems seem like a Dinosaur while those with the R1 will have saved up enough money to be able to purchase the new All Powerful2 Lappy, and thus it ever will be that the R2's will be behind the R1's :p

I've seen (at the Outlet and on ebay) R1's with ATI 4870's. Since the R1's also have the integrated "power saving" nVidia 9400m (correct?), how does one have a system with ATI and nvidia display drivers? You just load both???

Sounds like someone has i7-Envy. ;)

Don't forget the All Powerful2 Lappy R1, which you will have saved up for and purchased, will be riddled with new technology bugs. At this point, you'll have spent ridiculous amounts of $$$ on both your R1's, while those of us with R2's will be celebrating (laughing at) the fact we didn't throw our money down the drain on yet another R1.

And thus it ever will be that you will, from here on out, be stuck in R1 Hell. :D

If I remember rightly, then when you've got the ATi cards in the R1, then you're using EITHER the dedicated cards or the integrated 9400M and you need to reboot to switch between them.

Does your M17x not have the integrated 9400m?? Did it come with the 3870's or did you put them in?

You've also got to take into account that people with a perfectly good working system aren't going to say anything. I had an R1 that served me well until the day I got i7 envy and sold it. And I'm sure millions of other people had this same experience. I never had DPC latency issues or anything. It's too bad these forums are only riddled with complaints and tech issues. I made a thread about satisfied customers, but it gets buried deep relatively quickly. You can't make a blanket statement about the R1 being a brick and the R2 having zero faults.
