What happened to the Bluetooth enable/disable toggle button in Windows 8?

I can't seem to find it anymore? Does anyone know where it went?

Here's a screen shot of where I think it's supposed to be:

mine doesn't have it on that section as well, however when i double click on the bluetooth icon in the desktop app it goes to "devices" section above wireless and shows a list of all my paired devices.

Isn't it tied to the hotkey? The wireless one that turns off both wifi and Bluetooth (under Win8 it enables airplane mode). I think there is some sort of option in the BIOS that let's you specify what the hotkey toggles, but don't quote me on it.

Yea... The wireless toggle can disable/enable both wireless and bluetooth however some people like to do it individually.

There are two Bluetooth driver packs for my R4 I noticed on Dell's support site. A0 and A1. Might be worth installing A0 then A1.

This could be a good option. Give it a try and let us know.

I still have mine too. In regards to physical button: yes, it is still there an disables both BT and wifi at the same time (goes into Flight mode). In Windows 7 I used to change BIOS settings to only disable wifi and not BT, but in Windows 8 I can it does not work; even when changed to disable only wifi physical button still disables both BT and wifi. I am using Dell Wireless 380 Bluetooth4.0 A01 drivers.

Well, I just want to turn off the Bluetooth because I hardly use it. The wireless key (in Windows 8) turns off all radios and puts it into Airplane Mode.

I just tried setting the Wireless option in the BIOS to have the wireless switch toggle only the Bluetooth, but when you boot into Windows 8, the wireless switch still turns off both the WiFi and bluetooth.

Can someone please confirm this behavior?

HOWEVER, it does work as it should in Windows 7. Meaning, when you set the Wireless setting in the BIO to make the wireless switch only toggle the bluetooth and boot into Windows 7, the wireless switch does work at only toggling the bluetooth and leaves the WiFi alone. So, it must be a compatibility issue with Windows 8.

It would be nice to have individual control over enabling and disabling the WiFi and bluetooth in Windows 8.

My bluetooth is on the Intel 2230 card, so it's just the same driver that the WiFi uses from Intel.

I wonder if it's because you have separate cards for wifi and bluetooth?

This could be an issue with the 2230 drivers & the BIOS & Windows 8?

I have Killer Wireless N 1103 card and Dell Wireless 380 Bluetooth 4.0 Module. It could well be that the physical switch kills the whole card in your case. The problem lays in Alienware OSD Application - it simply does not work, therefore the physical button turning flight mode on works as Windows 8 designed rather than performing Dell/Alienware specified functions. You can see the same behaviour from all the media buttons - sound up/down buttons only give generic Windows 8 animation rather than Alienware specific like they used to in Windows 7. Eject button does not work at all, still no news on that since 26/10/2012 when Windows 8 supported driver was released. In fact if you uninstall OSD application it would not make any difference what so ever.

Yep, I noticed that too. However, I prefer the Windows 8 OSD controls for brightness and volume because they have more granular steps than the Alienware OSD controls..so, it doesn't bother me as much as not be able to turn off the Bluetooth.

I strongly suspect that it has to be a BIOS bug with Windows 8, because when you set the wireless switch to bluetooth only in BIOS, it works fine in Windows 7, but not Windows 8.

Same here for me - individual controls for wireless and bluetooth, but I do have the 1103n.....unless you have the seperate module (BT 380), I don't think you can switch it on or off as it's integrated. I can turn the bluetooth on or off without disabling wifi functionality and it doesn't go into airplane mode.....

Well this sucks. I guess I'm stuck without any control over my bluetooth in Windows 8.

Although, it does seem odd that Windows 7 will let you individually control the wifi and bluetooth on the Intel 2230.

I will have to see what my mom's system is like. She has a Inspiron 17r SE and the Intel 2230 and Windows 8.
