    Hi everyone,

What the best/top CPU upgrade M17X R4 I can buy.

    I'm currently on 17 3940xm [IMG]

    Or

Is it best just to overclock my current CPU in the bios?

Will that help to gain more performance?

    Thanks

That is the best CPU for your system, definitely try overclocking it as you will gain quite a bit more performance.

    Cheers pal

Is there a guide on how to do that within the bios, I know you can overlook CP in the bios to level 1 2 3?

Never done overclock on alienware before so I'm not to sure the best way here .

    Any help is much appreciated

    Ritz

Better improve your cooling first, OC brings much excess heat with it ;)

Use Grizzly Conductonaut Liquid metal. Google it. Or search within this forum.

Is it an extra powerful fan or just a regular replacement fan?
Also, do the 39xx XM cpus need a bigger heatsink and a bigger power supply?(Currently have a 240w unit)

It's a more powerful fan (10.x vs. the stock 4.x cfm), and a perfect drop-in, thus fitting better than the one of the m14x r2, which needs modification.

I'd say depending on the GPU, up to 100w the 240w unit should be sufficient, above that the 330w would be better e.g. when upgraded to a 1070.

I think the CPU fan port is rated at 0.5A

Does the Intel tool auto load the profile on reboot? What settings are others using for 3940XM?

I hear some people say that the 3940XM can overclock higher than the 4940MX. Fix me if I'm wrong.

A larger number of 3940XM can overclock higher. But Haswell have up to 11% Higher IPC vs. Ivy Bridge. Haswell chips run hot and not so easy squeeze out high clocks.
