Right 2 issues id like to take some advice !

    1) Yesterday i opened the laptop to start up and noticed a 1-2cm scratch/crack, about 3 inches to the left hand side of the webcam.
    [laptop is 2-3 month old]

[pics to be uploaded in few hours]

I say its a scratch / crack because its not to deep crack that i can see it spitting the material, but i can see its fairly deep.

Should i consider reporting it to DELL and get it repaired by warranty or should I just ignore it as its not really super visble and deep enough [yet] to be a serious issue?

    2) Second issue is graphics card performace, it was slow last night and where Id usually get 100 + FPS on CS:S, but instead i had 30-40 FPS.

I checked to make sure if the graphics card was on the high performance option [which it was], I then gave the computer a rest of 30 minutes and rebooted, but still had the same issue of low FPS.

Any adivce / suggestions as what to do next on the two issues would be much appreciated.

    1. Newly purchased laptop with a crack? I'd report it to Dell.
    2. M17X-R2? Have you checked if stealth mode is on?

Its a new purchased computer, Iv had it for roughly 3 months. Dont know if a small scratch / crack like that is worth living through dell customer service hell!?

Im going to have a look once work finishes if the laptop is on stealth mode.

Well, you were bothered enough by the scratch to ask for opinions in forums. :p

And is it an R2? :)

    1) So im going to report it to Dell today and see what they say. I prefer to send my lappy back to depo, even if its for two weeks away. So its fixed properly as iv see so many horror stories about out-sourced repair people.

got a feeling they will play this down as a simple scratch though it looks a bit deep to me and i dont want it turning into a massive crack :/

    Will upate what they say.

    2) Fixed the lag, like you said it was stuck in stealth mode / blanced performance power settings.

took 30 seconds to fix :p

    (+1 rep ;) )

If the laptop is 3 months old, then you are well out of your return period. Unless it has been there from the get go, then it isn't their fault. I droped my headphones onto my palmrest and made a nice scratch there during my 21 day return, but that is hardly Dells fault. If the scratch/crack is not through the plastic (stuctural integrity is still intact), then I wouldn't worry about it, having your laptop sent to Dell will be a major PITA.

If the laptop in question is the one in your signature (an R3) it doesn't have a stealth mode, but the power option pretty much do the same thing, so if you were on a power saver profile that could slow your GPU.

I do not believe they are going to fix a scratch found out of the 21 day. If it had been there you would have seen it and called long before now. Most people inspect every square inch looking for the smallest blemish when they first receive it. Anything done to it after falls in you or someone else could have caused it. If Dell refuses to repair it don't blame them if they do, consider them really nice.

I guess I have to enable signatures again so I don't keep asking for the model name. :p
Glad you sorted it out Zeggy.
