So I'm the proud owner for an M18x R2 now so I think my M17 is soon to be for sale. Specs are....

    940xm CPU
    5870m gpu
    8gb ram
    Intel 120gb SSD
    320gb HDD

Have a friend interested but not sure what price to tell him

Idiots (feebay is full of them) will pay quite a fortune for any alienware no matter how old it is. I frequently see m11x r1 auctions (Yes, m11x r1. The core 2 model) going for over $500 usd with many bids. You could milk $1k out of it easily. Just put windows 10 on it. The dumb buyers love that stuff.

The lowest you'll get is probably $700.

Well, this is the last 16:10 Alienware, so it's not exactly idiots-magnet. There are people who appreciate the fact and the lovely RGB LED. There are more plus sides as well - last 17" with dual GPUs, the best built quality in a laptop this side of rugged machines (the 18"s have inferior built quality), pretty solid base for modding and etc...

I would keep it but now having this M18x R2 and running current games with ease, really no sense to have this M17. Only way to see a bit more life is new graphics cards. And just paying $700 for a decked out M18x R2, can't really see putting money into the 17 now. Plus it's hard to keep the 17 cool. This 18 rocks. Solid 60fps on Dying Light so far with all settings maxed! Highest temps hit 80c sitting on my lap with not so great air flow!
