I did not know that Alienware is letting other companies "build" alienware laptops.

The M17xR4 I bought was from Alienware - Custom Gaming Computers - PC Gaming At Its Best (Dell). now that I look around...... I found this:

Custom Laptops, Gaming Notebooks, Custom Gaming Laptops | XOTIC PC

And it looks like the offer blue ray burners, etc and some other options like ordering with out any storage selected.

What is the difference between buying "Alienware" (Dell) or Alienware (XoticPC), it seems like they offer allot of options that dell does not which as a consumer is kinda dumb (opinion).

Just different retailer. It's up to you as a consumer to decide who to order from, knowing that you can negotiate a great deal with Dell and you can also upgrade most of the parts that Xoticpc offers on your own.

From what I hear around the forum, maybe Xotic can jump in here for you:

    1) It will take longer to get it from Xotic since they order from Dell, then do your upgrades.
    2) A 21 day return policy from AW will be well out of date or even disqualified buying from Xotic.
    3) Xotic can do things that AW will not (e.g. IC Diamond TIM) and has more hardware selection.
    4) However, as leesh says, upgrade parts are cheaper on a DIY basis.
    5) Odds are, you won't pay sales tax at Xotic.

Overall, if you want some serious hardware and setup options while not doing them yourself, Xotic has the ability to make you an AW on steroids.

    Good Luck!

    Cool Thanks,

I was really looking at a Blue ray burner. Xotic does not list it in the accessories as a separate purchase item, since I ordered from dell, where is this mysterious blue ray burnner that fits the M17xR4? can I get if off of new egg?
