    Hi guys,

I recently tried the A10 bios but instantly switched back to A09 as the fans were constantly whirling away on A10. I know this keeps temps down, but the noise was getting on my nerves. What bios is best to use on the Alienware 17? A lot of members are tailing about A05. What's so special about that bios version?

If your current BIOS isn't having any issues there's no need to change it. BIOS updates are usually released to fix certain behaviors.

If that's the case, how come A10 downclocks my GPU? I honestly don't see a reason for you guys to down clock my GPU. I also don't see a reason as to why you would take over clock settings away from us Alienware 17 owners. Dell advertised the 4700MQ as it can be boosted up to 3.4 GHz. My CPU doesn't hit anywhere near that margin on A10 at any given time.

    Please comment on below .

Very interesting . I'm waiting on my new 17 and I'll be a bit upset if it isn't able to do what has been advertised .

Well i think ( of course in my opinion anyway) if something like this has been changed i would take a wild guess saying overclocked GPU's maybe be failing more than they should and warranty claims high?

It could have been that the engineering team determined that at those clocks there were some video cards having issues, it's a matter of testing. Probably the same with clock settings. We usually don't have those unlocked except for XM processors. We always welcome feedback and pass it on to our engineering team so we can give better updates. Sometimes an update takes out a feature or two, and/or adds a feature or two. That's why we do not ask our users to install an specific update unless there's a determined behavior that can be fixed by it.

I meant to say that if you are not having issues with A09 you should stay with it because of this that I just explained.

If you would like to give them feedback directly you can ask them to get back those features by creating a thread and getting votes on ideastorm.com

It would be great if all BIOS versions would have a proper changelog. For example changelog for R4 A13 version is as follows:
    Fixed
    -add Win8.1 OS type
    -support Fn+F1/F2/Pause function.

    Enhancements
    -NA

It would really be a lot more useful to have the changelog, which simply states: added this because of that reason, removed this because of that other reason. The users then would be able to think: do I have this problem, which needs fixing? Is this problem really worth fixing considering this other feature will be removed? I am sure engineers spend hours/days for testing of new features or removal of old features in BIOS/driver versions before actually releasing new BIOS version to the public. Better changelogs would be really appreciated by most of AW users I believe.

    Hi

I'm hoping for a more intense fan profile on my alienware 17. I hope my machine very well can have more cooling . Louder fans.
As you can see from my profile I have i7 4930mx and gtx780m. If I use the new BIOS A10, I'm going to get exactly the same problems as Alienware 18 with i7-4930mx? Do I get any problems with my overclocked I7-4930mx or will I have problems with my overclocked gtx780m? Or at worst CASE problems with BOTH (i7-4930MX AND GTX780M)? Do I HURT MY WHOLE overclocking? I hope fore some answers from you.
    Thank you
Sorry for my BAD English :)
